I thought it strange when Charlotte was rummaging through Sawyer's drawer. It looked to me as though she was looking for something, nothing about his parents, but maybe something connecting the ATL Sawyer to the MTL Sawyer.
The timeline at some point split and we have the ATL and the MTL. What if Sawyer left something behind when he was flashing to the past? Since Charlotte is an archeologist, what if she found that something and is trying to figure out how Sawyer could've been on the island in the past.
Not sure the hows and whys and logistics, but I believe that Charlotte (and other associates) will figure out that there is another timeline...and maybe how to access it and converge them.
