As you may all now know after watching the last episode 'Ab Aeterno' - the island represents a cork, that keeps the 'evil' inside from letting it spread.
Now let us remember the 'Parallel world/timeline' which we see during these flashes in this season. As you may also remember - there were moments (during the oceanic succesful flight) where the island was shown - SINKEN.
Conclusion:
If the MIB (aka Smoke Monster) can't escape the island, because of the 'cork', he will simply sink it from the inside with everything that's in it (including himself, the island, the other, the temples and Jacob).
p.s. as I now understand this theory does not contain any spoilers, because I'm talking about the aired episodes and the things that are now explained.
