Daniel Faraday, another gifted pianist, has also been shown playing this same piece as a boy and also in '04.

If you compare the handwriting on David's Sheet Music to this song (on his desk at home) with the handwriting in Daniel's journal as seen in "The Constant," it would appear they match. Both are also written in red ink.

My theory is that Daniel Faraday is David Shephard's music teacher in the FlashSideways timeline.
