I am sick and tired people calling John Locke a pawn.
Why would you think that? I really don't get it. Can someone please explain to me how is he a pawn and I would be very grateful.
Is it maybe because he was manipulated by Anthony Cooper? Anthony Cooper a con man? CON MAN I say...who was his father btw. lol
Was he manipulated by Benjamin Linus? Benjamin Linus, a leader of the Others? Benjamin Linus who lived on the island for 35 years? Benjamin Linus who had a head start? Really?
Who else manipulated Locke? MIB or Jacob perhaps? Two men or whatever they are who lived on that island for ages..one of them doesn't seem to age and the other one can take form of dead people. Hm.. I wonder how would you manage?
So are these the only people who are manipulating Locke? Who else is there? I am thinking that Locke is pretty popular guy. He is wanted by Benjamin Linus, former leader of the Others, who is so threatened by Locke, Charles Widmore, former leader of the Others, who sent Locke on the island in the first place, Richard, who is an Adviser on the island, who made Locke leader of the Others, MIB who is maybe the island itself or Jacob who could be the same.
John Locke is the man who survived numbers of diseases when he was a baby. The nurse said it is a miracle he survived. The nurse. Not Jacob. Not Richard. Not the island. The nurse. Because nothing like that ever happened in her hospital. When he was a child he "had sense for the game", he drew Smoke Monster (while Jack was being bullied in school as kid, while Kate was stealing, while Sayid was killing animals etc. John was playing the oldest game and drawing Smoke Monster as kid) and he PICKED THE RIGHT OBJECT! Because out of those things the only thing that was already his was that knife. In episode "Follow the leader" John said: "I went to give Richard HIS compass back" It was Richards compass in Lockes mind. Richard THINKS it is Lockes compass. But who knows whose compass is? No one! Because this compass is in a loop. So once again Locke picked the right object. Because Locke without a knife is not Locke. Period.
While he was a teenager he was bullied because he is smart. Because he is good in science, and lets be honest it only happens in American schools. Where I come from being smart is an excellent thing at every age.
What happened between teen Locke and grownup Locke? Who knows. But it is obvious with time he became frustrated and angry. And who wouldn't? He was raised in a foster home. He never met his parents. He was abused by his fellow students because he was smart..then he finally met his mother. Who was a nut! She lead him to his father who is a jerk! He conned him and took his kidney..pretended to like him to steal his kidney but even then he didn't want to do anything to him. Most of the people would kill him, these days. Then he found out Cooper is conning again. And he watched his back. He lied to protect him. And what did he get? Just a little push..from 8th floor. He felt his spine broke. He felt his world crashing knowing it was his damn father who gave him that little push! Let me ask you a question people, how would you feel?
And then what? He survived the fall!?! (we have no idea if Jacob had anything to do with that but even if he did, well it was Jacob who came looking for Locke, for some reason, because Locke is one of the most important pieces in the puzzle)
Few years after he had guts to go on a walkabout, walkabout that put him on a plane, plane who crashed on the island and he didn't just survive the plane crash, among 40 other people, but he was able to walk again!?!
Lets see what happens to him later on..he sees the Monster (based on the sound we heard) and he survives this too, unlike pilot. He knows this place is special and he is not afraid to talk about it. He saves Charlie from his addiction, he saves Jack on that cliff, he finds Vincent, something Michael was not able to do, and he gives the dog to Michael even Michale treated him like a piece of crap, he saves Eko from the polar bear and so on. A lot of people think he didn't want to leave the island because he was afraid he would loose his ability to walk again but I don't think that's true, because he didn't seem afraid to me when he went down the well in order to save their lives knowing he will die in the process. He sabotaged every attempt for rescue because somehow he knew that this island needs them and that it is their destiny to do something here. How he knew this I have no idea..like I have no idea how he knew when its gonna start raining and when its gonna stop. How he! knew when and where to catch Jack? Its another theory...
And after everything he's been through with the island, Ben, the others, losties, hatch, his past life and so on he is confronted with his father again. And even now he is not able to kill him. Not because he is weak but because he is not a killer. Because he is a good person. And being good, and one of the few on this island I might add, doesn't mean he is weak or a pawn. John Locke is many things but not weak. He trusts people, he believes in them, it is not his problem that people are mean and selfish.
Then we realize that leader of the Others, Ben Linus, who lived on this island for 35 years has a tumor on his back and even after operation and on the island that heals people he is still after days and days not able to walk until John Locke pays him a visit. With Locke around Ben is able to walk again. And what does Locke get for that? A bullet! How would you feel?
BUT again this man gets up and starts walking. Asking Jack to stay. Telling him the truth. Jack is not suppose to live this island. It is their destiny to take the path together. John and Jack. And let me ask you where does that path ends? At the hatch. At the hatch. John Locke was right once again. But no, Jack will not listen. And that was the crucial point. Because like John said..they were never suppose to leave the island.
So Locke became leader of the Others. It was not for long. Because Ben didn't push the wheel how it was suppose to be pushed. For God sake how hard is to push the wheel?
Island started skipping and the small group of survived people was in serious danger and what happens? Locke finds the way of stopping it. Not the scientist who spent most of his adult life studying this island but a "pathetic clueless pawn". And btw he was the only one who didn't get the nosebleed apart from Daniel who went to see his constant behind everyones back. So Locke decides to sacrifice himself in order to help them all.
He WILLINGLY left the island unlike some other leaders we know...he left his beloved island in order to help people he is with. Once of the island he had to confront naysayers, pathetic selfish people who refused to help their friends in trouble...forget the friends I think they owed Sawyer something for the dive he took! But no...they all refused and he was crushed. Who wouldn't be. But then here comes saint Benjamin Linus to save the day. He comes as a sheep in wolfs skin, pretending to care for Locke and his people just enough to get information he needs in order to get back and he kills Locke again.
And Jack? He finally believed Locke..a little bit to late Jack don't you think?
So back on the island Locke is again walking! And despite all I think that John Locke is still alive..because this Locke Flocke still has his memories..he is, like he said, still the same man he used to be. How is it possible there are two bodies of Locke I have no idea. We will soon learn how..but after watching 5 seasons, this is by far the best character of this show. Simple, modest, brave, good, kind, righteous..like leader should be.
And I wonder how would any of other characters reacted if all these things happened to them...if all these men who are a part of this island for ages payed half of attention they payed to Locke..what would they do? How would they behave? And if Locke is a pawn then every single being on this island is...because they are all brought to this island, one way or another..
