LOST Theories - DarkUFO

Lost Locke by Carole Anne

The revelation that MIB is either inhabiting, duplicating or highly influencing Locke in the Incident has led me (and I know others) to examine this character more closely in earlier episodes. I just noticed that someone else has posted something similar.

The questions are how, when and where was MIB able to get hold of Locke to create a loophole? Was it at his death or much earlier? Was MIB’S “take over” sudden or was it more gradual? Are both Jacob and MIB (light and dark) engaged in a struggle to control Locke symbolizing the struggle humanity faces every day? I don’t know the answers to these questions, but I am going to make some guesses in this theory.

I have only re-watched the first three seasons and have missed a couple episodes due to a damaged DVD. My general thought is that Locke’s transformation has been gradual. I have, at this point, no concrete idea of why there are 2 Lockes at the and of the incident. I’ll leave that for others to discuss. Your thoughts, questions and comments are really welcome and encouraged.

At the beginning of the series Locke seems good. He can now walk and believes in a mystical power of the island that he is somehow connected to. He believes he and the rest of the losties are on the island for a reason – it is their destiny. He knows there is a reason but doesn’t either know what it is or can’t explain it.

He has trained in survival and was preparing for a walkabout to use these skills and have a spiritual renewal. I believe in preparing for this trip he opened himself to the possibility of change in himself and was a ready vessel for a connection to the island. Once there he uses these skills, particularly as a hunter, and plays a necessary role in helping the losties survive during the first days on the island.

He helps Charlie overcome his drug addiction and find his guitar. He helps Claire with Aaron when he’s fussy.

He acts as a mentor to Walt, teaching him backgammon and showing us the 2 sides, light and dark. He makes a whistle to call the missing Vincent from the jungle and then gives Vincent to Michael so the father can be the one to give Walt his lost dog. He explains to Walt that he experienced a miracle on the island when he was given his ability to walk back.

When Jack is following his father and falls off a cliff it is Locke who reaches down to save him.

So at the beginning I saw a really great guy and I liked him as a character. Through his eyes I saw a wonderful amazing island and wanted to believe along with him that the island was everyone’s destiny.

While he was being chased by smokie we never saw him encounter smokie. What we did see was him looking up with awe and wonder to something he later described as beautiful. Later smokie chases him and he is afraid as he recognizes this is not what he saw before. Smokie tries to drag him down a hole but Jack helps him and saves him. But in the end, Locke is not afraid of being pulled into the hole.

Then we find out more about Locke. One thing I can’t get out of my mind is the picture of Smokie on his wall when Richard visits him as a child. It’s the first time Locke is tested and he picks the knife. I wonder if it is the knife that is used to stab Jacob? And does Richard know this? Is he on a mission from Jacob to find out if it is Locke who MIB will use as a loophole or is he there to just to find a new leader?

Locke tries so hard to fulfill his destiny and discovers the hatch. Along the way Boone dies when Yemi’s plane falls from the tree. He believes that Boone was the sacrifice that the Island demanded so that Locke could discover the hatch. I think this could be where MIB starts a gradual takeover and manipulation of Locke. I don’t think Jacob (as seen so far) would demand human sacrifice.

Once inside the hatch Locke continues to enter the numbers in the belief that it must happen. Then he discovers at another hatch that they are being watched and thinks they are all just part of some Dharma experiment. He’s disolusioned. He refuses to enter the numbers, the hatch implodes and we all know what follows. I think Locke may have been exposed to some sort of EM since he was so close to the explosion. We see him wake up in the grass. And this is where and why I think a real change comes over Locke. It’s the only event I can think of because after this is I see a big change in Locke.

Perhaps the seeds were always there. His mother says that he was immaculately conceived. Of course she could be lying or mentally ill. But she could be telling the truth. And for a young woman in the 50’s artifical insemination or even the implantation of an embryo could be made to seem like a miracle. Just render her ceremoniously unconscious and do it. We never really see the father. We are just told its Cooper.

What if Locke always had some of MIB’s genes in him? The circumstances just weren’t right until the hatch implosion for them to begin to completely nmanifest themselves. Maybe that’s why he drew the picture of smokie. It was always in his subconscious. (I know this is a stretch, and is a wild theory, but this is a theories section.)

After the implosion Locke is mute and spends some time in a sweat lodge taking something halucinogenic. It’s what the island wants him to do.
He has vision: Boone appears and says the island has demanded his silence
and that Locke needs to find a way to bring the family back together…….What family? Is he talking about Jack, Kate and Sawyer that Ben captured? Or is he talking about the Shepherd family?

Boone then presents Locke with a wheelchair and he goes to an airport where people are boarding. Boone says someone in the airport is in danger. He needs to save them. We see Sayid, Hurley, Sun, Jin, Desmond, Charlie, Claire and Aaron, and Boone says not to worry about them. But Jack, Sawyer and Kate come to his attention and Ben is checking them into the airport. At that point I assumed he was referring to those 3 as being captured by Ben. But it is interesting that it is also those 3 who are closest to the incident and will somehow be affected by it. Finally Boone says Locke has to clean up his own mess He doesn’t have much time. So he goes off to find and save the above 3 – we think.

Is he now on MIB’s mission? On his way he and Sayid run into Mikael’s station. It is here he finds the explosives and discovers a computer chess game that was designed by 3 smart men. (Jacob, MIB and Christian?) Mikael hasn’t been able to win as long as he was there. But Locke wins in a very short time and then he is told to ENTER 77. 1977? Was that action what was needed to get the time traveling losties to settle in 1977? I have always wondered about that.

Anyway, Locke eventually gets to the Baracks (Mickael seems to know him from somewhere but never gets to say it completely, just P…) captures Ben who brings Cooper from out of nowhere, and Locke blows up the submarine, the only way people think they can leave the island. He then goes with Ben and the others as the leave Otherton.

Ben then tells him he has to kill Cooper (his dad) to be rid of his past. But Locke can’t do it. Now I always thought it was some sort of weakness in Locke. He says he isn’t a killer. And maybe he isn’t. So he gets Sawyer to do it because of what he learned from reading the file Richard gave him. This is just like MIB’s getting Ben to kill Jacob. Maybe Jacob and MIB can’t kill anyone for some reason. They have to manipulate people into doing what they want. Or at least MIB does. And Locke is becoming more MIB like.

So now Locke has fulfilled Ben’s requirement to be leader and demands to see Jacob. Sound familiar? It sure does to me. In fact, much of The Man Behind The Curtain is eerily like the scenes of The Incident where it is MIB (in Locke’s form) demanding to see Jacob along with Ben who is going to kill him for him. So is it really MIB in Locke that wants to see Jacob in TMBTC? Was it Locke who broke the circle of ash entering the Cabin or exiting? And who was saying to Locke, “Help Me.”? (a thought, Christian Shepherd) I always thought it was either Jacob or MIB. Maybe the writers were just foreshadowing the Incident. Or maybe not. What do you think? We later see Christian in the Cabin.

I watched the first Hurley centric episode of season 4 last night. It’s where Hurley sees the cabin. I watched it on my computer and was able to move the cabin sequence forward frame by frame. Maybe others have seen what I saw. If not here it is.

There are whispers. Hurley sees an empty chair in the cabin. Then we see a picture of a DOG that looks like a bloodhound, or an exaggerated version of Vincent? Then there’s a man in the rocker and wearing what looks like a white business shirt. And the man bore a remarkable resemblance to Christian. In Fact, John Terry who plays Christian, is listed in the credits as a guest star. But the only place I think I saw him was in that cabin. Then the eye of a different man appears in the window and Hurley runs, turns to look at the cabin and the door squeakily opens. Hurley closes his eyes and will the cabin to disappear and falls. Next, Locke is standing over him. How convenient.

A side thought, could Locke have been meeting with Christian in the cabin?

So Christian is dead but we see him on the island and in the cabin.

And of course now Locke is dead. And he is on the Island acting like MIB.

This is way too long, but I’ve been thinking about it for some time. I’ve tried to focus on Locke, but MIB and Christian keep coming up in my mind. Please comment or answer some of my questions with your thoughts.
