LOST Theories - DarkUFO

Jacob, Smokey, and the MIB by K2daus

This theory is not one about the overall story of LOST but more just about Jacob, Smokey, and the MIB. I, like many of you I'm sure, have been working my way back through the series during the hiatus. I got to Cabin Fever in season 4 and had a sort of crazy theory about these three pop into my head. Now to start off I don't write too much stuff on here but have been lurking around for quite some time. The general concensous about Jacob and the MIB seems to be that one is good, and one is bad, or that one sees people as good and one sees them as bad. I think that the later is more accurate and I will get into that in a second. You also probably noticed that I don't think that the MIB and Smokey are one in the same like a lot of you do. I have came across some interesting facts that to me at least point to them being two different entities. To start I think that these three have the same goal in mind; to lo! ok out for the well being of the island. Not necessarily protect it because that a lot of times implies keeping people away from it which is not what all of them want. This wording is also a direct quote from Locke when he is talking to Miles in the lake house during season 4 before he stuffs the grenade in his mouth. So based on my theory we have three "men" "things" whatever looking out for the well being of the island, cerebus anyone?? Nah just crazy talk there, on to my theory;

MIB
Ah the one we call the Man in Black. Maybe we'll actually get a name for this guy in season 6, but until then MIB will do i guess. Now MIB's point of view is very evident in the his conversation with Jacob in the Incident. He doesn't want people on the island. He thinks they corrupt it, fight on it, and will eventually destroy it. So his way of looking out for the island is by keeping people away from it. Which is in direct contrast to what Jacob wants which is why there seems to be so much hostility between the two. He wants the island to stay hidden from the world because he thinks thats the only way to protect it. I also think that he can bring people back from the dead as evident by the end of the Incident. I don't think he possess them though, he duplicates them somehow, which is why we see still dead Locke in the metal crate even though we see Flocke walking around. I also think that any time we have seen Christian on the island and he is not in his suite wit! h the white shoes it is the MIB. So it was the MIB that told Locke to move the island because that is his way of protecting, by hiding it.

Smokey
Now I am not going to speculate on what Smokey really is, in fact I have no idea. What I will talk about is what his goal is. Way, way back one of the fist things we learned is that Smokey is a secruity system for the island, which in my theory is accurate. He has the same goal as the other two, to look out for the island, but he does it differently. He does not mind people coming to the island contrary to MIB but he does not pull them there either contrary to Jacob. He is sort of the gray area between the I think people are bad or good debate. Now when people come to the island he starts to scan them. He finds out if these people are good, bad, or sinners that can be forgiven. If they are bad he takes care of it by killing them, if they are good he leaves them be, and if they have done bad things but are willing to repent he lets them be as well. See he is more of a judge and juror if you will. He finds out for himself what kind of people they are and then he acts! in a way that he thinks is best of for the island. Thats how he protects it. This also makes sense due to the way he handled judging Ben and Eko respectively. Now he too can bring people back from the dead, but he actually possesses the dead body. So anytime we have seen Christian in his suite and white shoes it was Smokey. This also goes with him being Yemi in the Cost of Living. Eko goes to the plane and his body is gone, why? Because smokey is using it to judge Eko.

Jacob
Jacob has been one of the biggest mysterious on LOST for a long time. He has long been said to be the highest leader of the others. His talk with the MIB at the beginning of the Incident seems to imply he thinks people are naturally good. He might not actually think every person is good, but he thinks given enough time, goodness will shine through at the end. The converastion also seems to point to him being the one responsible for bringing these different groups of people to the island. He does this because he thinks this is in the island's best interest. Somehow bringing these people here will help it, in the long run, I'll explain. First, lets take a look at this part of Jacob's and the MIB's conversation (maybe not word for word);

MIB- They come, they fight, they corrupt, it always end the same.

Jacob- It only ends once, everything before that is just progress.

See MIB thinks that every time Jacob brings a group of people to the island and they fight and corrupt that he is proven right again, but this is not the case. Jacob is playing a much larger game than MIB knows. Jacob is aware of there having to be some hurdle to overcome before the end game, but he thinks eventually goodness will come through and they can live in harmony with the island. That's what he thinks is best for the island. To take the bumps and bruises along the way in order for a better future. MIB is looking at the micro and Jacob the macro if you will. Now I also think Jacob can bring people back from the dead but more literally. He can actually bring back dead people. This is evident when Locke falls and breaks his back. I think he died and Jacobs touch brought him back to life.

So in the end I think these three have very similar goals and powers for that matter, they just have different views and strategies to attain these goals. Which are to look out for the well being of the island.

So that's it thanks for reading, I know it got a bit lengthy. Let me know what you guys think.
