It's a small theory, but I think the blast door map which Radzinsky, Kelvin and eventually Desmond painted in the Swan station, was initially drawn by Sawyer. In "Follow the Leader" Radzinsky hands Sawyer a notebook and asks him to draw a map to the location of the hostiles. If Radzinsky was a higher-up person in the DI, why would he need to paint a map of the stations? He knew them all by heart. No he was painting a map to the location of the hostiles. A map drawn by Sawyer in the 70s. That's why there's all the question marks and uncertainty. Because Sawyer only knew a little bit of the map. Also, if I remember correctly in Season 2 when Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley & Michael come upon the capsule dump from the Pearl Station, its Sawyer who finds the crumpled up map drawing that Locke sent up the Pearl's pneumatic tube.
