Reading a few theories on here about Ben (“I lied, its what I do”) jogged my memory to something I read ages ago. Some guy went to a Comic Con or something where Darlton attended and he got them to sign a shirt for him. Now apparently they either signed this on the shirt or told him “Ben is like Snape”. Being a massive Potter fan I know that Snape’s story is one of the biggest twists in the Potter story……for those of you who don’t already know here it is……POTTER SPOILER ALERT – If you haven’t and are planning to ready the Harry Potter books stop reading now……
Basically, throughout the Potter books Snape clearly hates Harry and his elegances are unclear. Does he still follow Voldermalt? or is he truly on Dumbledore’s side?
Well in book 6 (the penultimate book in the series) we think we get our answer when Snape kills Dumbledore despite him seemingly pleading for him not to.
Here comes the twist….
Well in the final book (final season) we find out that Snape was in fact ALWAYS on Dumbledore’s side and the “pleading” we witness was in fact Dumbledore urging Snape to kill him as he had previously (unknown to us) instructed him to do knowing that he was already dying of another ailment. Snape did truly hate Harry but had been protecting him throughout the books for a greater purpose (I won’t go into that here).
Anyway back to my theory. At the time of Darlton’s “Bens like Snape” comments I took this to simply mean (being back around season 4 time) that Ben was in fact a good guy despite appearing to be a baddie. However since seeing the season 5 finale the parallels between Snape and Ben have increased ten fold! Like Snape killing Dumbledore Ben has killed Jacob leaving us to think that our uncertainty over his elegance is now clear and he is definitely one of the Bad guys….or is he!?
If, like Darlton said, “Bens like Snape” this would mean, like others have theorised before me, that Ben has in fact killed Jacob because Jacob wanted him to! Maybe similarly to Snape Ben has also been protecting Loche/Losties (Harry Potter) this entire time despite the fact that he does indeed hate him/them for reason unknown at this time. In fact I remember Ben saying, to Jack I think it was, that “You have no idea what I’ve been through to protect you all”.
I suspect that we will discover in the final season that Ben has in fact been carrying out Jacobs master plan throughout the series. That Jacob has been aware of MIB’s loophole (Voldermalt’s plans) all along and has been using Ben (Snape) to counteract it. Its possible that the only people privy to this plan are Ben and Jacob and even Richard doesn’t know. Maybe we will see a flash back of Jacob meeting Ben and explaining his plan before telling him that in order to keep this hidden he will not communicate with him directly again leading Richard and everyone else to believe that Jacob doesn’t hold Ben in very high regard and most importantly blind siding Flocke into thinking he can use Ben as his loophole to kill Jacob.
This would give a whole new perspective on the scenes with Ben and Flocke if we are to assume that Ben knows that Locke is actually MIB at this point. More so maybe when Ben took Locke to see Jacob at the cabin that too was an act for MIB (If that was him trapped in the cabin) rather than for Locke’s benefit. He was trying make MIB think “This guy’s leader of the Others, yet he doesn’t seem to know Jacob’s whereabouts. Maybe Jacob doesn’t trust him. Maybe I can use that.” Flocke then asks Ben about this on the beach, probably to confirm what he thought, and Ben delivers his pathetic sob story about never meeting Jacob and being a fraud. BINGO….Flocke is reeled in and thinks he has his loop hole!
Anyway that’s enough for now, obviously LOST isn’t going to be an exact copy of Harry Potter and there will be many other twists and factors to consider such as the Smoke monster, Dharma, the Others etc etc. But I do think that in their Snape comment Darlton may have revealed a hint into a core plot line of the show.
Apologies for the length of this and I hope you have enjoyed it. I’ll look forward to your thoughts and criticisms.
