First theory on here so here it goes:
Ben and the Others justify all of their actions based on the word of Jacob. However I believe there is significant evidence that they have been tricked into following the word of the MIB instead and Alpert might be helping the MIB. Let’s look at some of the facts. Ben had seen or heard Jacob while he was the leader of the Others and tired to trick Locke in the cabin into believing Jacob was there in the cabin while in fact it was really the MIB who was in there with Ben having no idea. Also, when Ben returns to the island in season 5 he says he must be judged and when he arrives at the place of judgment it is Smokey who is the one that does the judging, who must of us agree is either the MIB or at least on the same side as the MIB. So why would someone who claims to be following the word of Jacob have to be judged by his adversary? Also, from the one episode that we see Jacob in it doesn’t seem like he is the one for making lists for the Others to take people and dir! ectly influencing, instead he is one who would rather give a little push in the right direction for people. This is where Richard comes into play. He does not age so he obviously have had to come into direct physical contact with at least Jacob and maybe even the MIB too. I think he has been duping the Others into following the instructions of the MIB instead of Jacob for quite some time and I think season six will reveal why and how. I also have a hunch that the temple is the dwelling place of the MIB but I am not as sure of that as the above. Have to save that for another theory. Feel free to rip this to shreds so I can write better ones in the future.
