Remember when lock said to jacob "... and you have no idea what i have had to go through to get here".The answer in short is his entire life as locke.
Sounds pretty extreme dosnt it .I have read alot of theorieas as to whom MIB, Flocke etc is but no one so far as i have read has approached the idea that the man talking to jacob at the beginning and john Locke are and have always been the same person in a smilar way as say jesus and God. Remmber in season one when locke is taken by the smoke monster and he belives that it wont hurt him, his connection with the island , the belief that he is speacial. I believe that the locke we have post resurection is not a fake but locke now fully aware of who he truly is. The loophole was not so much about killing jacob as it was about taking full control of the island.Only a person who has proved themselves worthy could do that a normal person with no knowledge as to the rules of the game hence MIB being born mortal as locke and going through all that he did towards that end.There so much i could say on the subject but am to lazy to write it all . But something for you all to think abo! ut.
I wounder if in the conversation between MIB and Jacob when MIB says "Always good talking to you Jacob" Jacob might not have responded " always good talking to you too John" .
