So I keep reading theories and hearing people say that Jacob and MIB (I really wish we knew his name) are absolutely equals, whether they are gods, judges, etc... I don't believe this to be the case as all. In the first scene of The Incident, MIB, although very straightforward, has a look of pure disgust and almost helplessness as he is talking to Jacob. He is clearly very frustrated he cannot kill Jacob or do anything at that moment. All while Jacob seems to almost care less about what MIB is saying.
I think that Jacob is clearly the leader of who knows how many people on the island at that time. I don't believe the others have ever had 2 leaders (I think that Ellie was more in charge that Widmore). MIB, to me, is just a regular guy in the beginning. Not special. He is clearly frustrated at however Jacob is running things. MIB says to Jacob, "One of these days, sooner or later, I'm going to find a loophole my friend." This tells me that MIB cannot see the future and does not know what is going to happen. It's a good guess and he ends up being correct, but the words he uses and way he says it lets me know that he is not for sure. Jacob on the other hand replies directly saying, "When you do, I'll be right here." Jacob knew that MIB would find a loophole. He even knew when because he was sitting in the corner waiting for Flocke and Ben.
May not be a big deal, and I've had quite a few drinks tonight, but that's that. Thanks for staying with me.
