I am rewatching LOST from the beginning. This is a quick theory that I came up with after watching Pilot Part 1 with the knowledge of what happens in seasons 1-5. I have always wondered why John knows so much about the Island, and this makes sense to me.
We meet Jack and John in Season 1 and we don't know it then unless we pay attention to the clues, but I believe that Jack and John have both previously been on the Island. They are the new Jacob and MIB.
Locke knows a lot about the Island, and as he says it when hunting for boar, looking for water, etc., he "knows where to look."
Jack always wants to fix things and keep people how he wants them. Doctors are sometimes known to want to "play God" and go past their limitations. For example, I think of Season1 Episode 11 when Jack was so determined to save Charlies life even though Charlie already seemed dead.
Locke is all about destiny, but Jack tries to change the destiny by fixing things.
