-If you believe the Smoke Monster is The ManInBlack/FakeLocke, like I do, it doesn't match up-
We're lead to believe for the first 4 seasons and even most of the 5th that the Others are following and taking orders from Jacob. (Ben in many instances claims to take orders from Jacob and that Jacob will "heal" Rachel, Juliet's sister, from cancer). Though when Sayid shot little Ben, we saw that Richard (part of the Others) take him to the Temple to be "healed", claiming he would "never be the same", would "lose his innocence", and "always be one of us".
We saw the Smoke Monster twice at the Temple (with Danielle's team in 1988-ish and 2007 with Ben's judgment), so are we led to believe the monster dwells there, and when Richard (who follows Jacob(?)), took Ben to the Temple, he was taking Ben to the Monster to be healed? - Can't Jacob heal? Why would Richard, allegedly who sworn under Jacob as his follower, go to the Smoke Monster to heal a child?
I believe in the grand scheme of things that MIB and Jacob aren't as far apart as we are lead to believe. In fact, I think (which I would hate if it was true), but that the Smoke Monster/MIB is the good person/the Leader of the Island, and Jacob is below him in the Island Hierarchy and corrupted. - MIB is/was always in charge, and gave Jacob powers to lead below him in the Island's Hierarchy; though MIB gave Jacob too much control to where MIB couldn't dismiss Jacob once his time was up. The only way to rid Jacob from his position would be then to kill him. Jacob brings people to the Island, against MIB's desire and corrupts the Island. Jacob deviated from MIB's plan and will for the Island (and even so much that the Dharma brainwashing film Karl was watching, caused God to dismiss Jacob ("God loves you as He loved Jacob")). - I think that Jacob may be following some of the virtues MIB has, such as "good/bad" people exist (3x06 Danny: "Shepherd wasn't even on Jacob's ! list"), but has brought more people to the Island than he ever should have and healed people (Richard from aging), when he shouldn't have.
