Picture 1.Picture 2
I saw on this website under the continuity section the differences in the leg, the hair and the skirt and I began looking for more evidence to support the theory of there being two statues on the island. I have not seen any theories on this board that cover some of the stuff I found so if I'm repeating anything someone has already mentioned I'm sorry. I know there are allot of theories on these boards. I watched the episodes with the statue again and looked close at some pictures and this is what I noticed.
During the episode Live together Die alone we see Sayid, Jin and Sun heading west on a boat and they see the statue Picture 1, Picture 2. The statue has been destroyed and only the left foot remains. The statue appears to be made of white stone and in the background we see a very mountainous terrain. When we see the statue from the rear we see allot of trees. We couldn't see the feet so maybe the view was from high up in the mountains but in the LTDA scene the mountains are quite large and it's more likely we would be seeing the top of the statue or not seeing it at all. The base where the right foot was is partially demolished. It has jagged edges and is on a slope.
When we see the statues foot in the episode the Incident (Click here for picture) it actually appears to be a right foot. However if it is the same left foot we saw in LTDA it appears to have a different base. Look at the same side that was partially demolished in LTDA. This side appears to be more in tact. Unlike its appearance in LTDA this time the right base is not jagged or partially demolished. It should also be noted that if the foot shown in The Incident is the same as the statue in Lafleur with the legs separated the right foot would have to be some distance from the left. You can clearly see the base is not big enough to support this. There simply isn't room for a right foot. It should also be noted the foot in The Incident appears to be made of brown stone unlike the white one we saw in LTDA.
What really caught my attention was when I rewatched the Follow the Leader and Incident episodes where MIB is leading the others to the statue. We saw them stop at the Losties old camp for a few minutes when MIB tells Ben "Hey this is where we first met with the hatch door". We also know MIB and company came from the hydra island. This would mean they are on the same beach that the Losties were on in LTDA. We clearly see MIB and company head east to go see Jacob at the statue. In LTDA we clearly see Sayid and company head west and see the statue off to their right. This means both groups either went right past the statue without taking notice or there are two different statues, one on each side. Some may make an argument that Sun should have said something since she saw it both times but it should also be noted the trips were about three years apart and all she's thinking about is Jin.
I know the show has had some continuity errors. We're all human and make mistakes. It's one thing to have a towel in one hand and then next scene its in the other but I don't see the writers having this many errors on something like the statue. They know how much people analyze and look for easter eggs. I think there are two statues on the island. I think it makes sense for jacob to have one statue representing his ideologies and MIB having one that represents his. Let me know what you think.
