Swan is not the reason for Oceanic 815 COMING to the island! It is the reason for something else...
I will go nuts if I see another WHH vs ALT theory. But I am writing one now too. Not to approve or disapprove anything merely to put some facts out there. First of all you cannot put Desmond as a proof for ALT. Desmond is uniquely special. The rules do not apply on him. He is able to change certain things but he cannot change the outcome. Well not obvious one at least.
For example, he postponed Charlies death few times. But at the end Charlie died. It was course correcting. But what if he let Charlie die the first time. Most of the people say there would not be anyone to unjam the signal. I find it ridiculous. Someone would go down there eventually. Sayid perhaps. But the thing that would be changed is the fact that Sayid is a soldier capable to fight anyone let alone two women. Would he defeat them? Yes, probably. He is a professional torturer. He would succeed where Charlie failed. Second thing, Sayid had no idea who Penny is. Unlike Charlie. So how could he warn them if something went wrong? On the other hand if he succeeded in getting the password then Desmond is the one who would talk to Penny. Sayid would still be alive. Charlie long gone. Signal unjammed. Nothing changed. Desmond is uniquely special. So we cannot take him as a proof.
The other thing, we all believe that the Swan is the reason for the crash. And without Swan there would be no crash. I say: wrong. Crash (landing) was destined, one way or another. Like Locke said, it was their destiny to crash on that island.
If the events we saw in season 5 finale lead to Swan never being built would they still crash? Yes. Why? Because Aijira 316 landed on the island. Swan was not there. Swan was gone. Nothing caused Aijira to crash. But they entered the island because they flew through a „window“, the window Hawking found. I think that Oceanic 815 flew through window too and would ended on the island no matter what BUT because of Swan and Desmond not pushing the button magnetic anomaly caused one thing. Breaking Oceanic 815 into 3 pieces. The plane was already above the island when it broke, we saw it in Tale of two cities. So lets follow logic on this one.
Swan is not there. It is destroyed by Juliette. Never built again. There is no button. What happens? Oceanic 815 still crashes. But without breaking into 3 pieces. It changes all. Because there would not be two groups now. Perhaps Goodwin would be alive. Shannon two. Maybe they would never find the missing pieces of the Orientation video Radzinsky cut out. Who knows. But the most important part of this statement is the part where I say Desmond is not the reason for crashing that plane, he is the reason for breaking it in pieces.
They would crash no matter what. It was their destiny. How? Would they land...would they break in parts, all these things are varibles. Ending up on that island is a constant.
So many paths need to be changed in order to change a big thing. The whole path of these characters is a pretty sad one since most of them, like 90%, died. I certainly wish they change something. I want Boone back, Eko, Locke, Charlie, Claire, Ethan, Danielle...Those were good characters.
The biggest mistake they made is living the island. Locke was right again. They were never suppose to leave the island in the first place. If they never left Locke would never be off the island. Ben would never come back. Yes, perhaps they would still be back in 70s but hell it would be different this time.
So what is the point of this theory? The point is that we still have no idea if WHH is solid. ALT as well. Most of the people think that the previous 5 seasons would be waste of time. But no...they wont. Because every single thing would play out the same, since they will land on the island no matter what. Well not the same...Because the paths for some characters would be different. But the whole picture is pretty much in the same format. Do you see what am I on about here? We saw one iteration of the loop or call it what ever you want. The next step(season 6) is again the day of the crash. Jack waking up in the jungle. Here we go again. But this time slightly different. Just certain small parts are changed.
And I am gonna say it again. Some things were changed during season 5. No matter what. Daniel changed some things by knocking on Desmonds door. We can look at this scene from different angles. Some can say it was a memory and it always happened some can say that Daniel changed something by knocking on the hatch door. I am in the second camp. I too believe he changed something because Desmond heard Sawyer knocking on the door. It was Sawyer who started the change. Daniel just proceeded with it. Desmond on the other hand would know if someone knock on his door during 3 years he spent in the hatch. Come on! You cannot forget something like that happening. Its not like you have neighbors who knock on your door asking you for some sugar! And lets not forget he was down there alone (hence Are you him question), sickness was around him, he was going crazy, and then a man knocked on his door and vanished with a flash of light. Dont forget that Desmond is the only one who actually ! noticed the flash. This is not something you forget. He woke up and said that it was not a dream but memory and yes he was right because he didnt have a dream. Daniel really knocked on his door and asked him for help. But it was a new event that never occurred in real 2004(I believe Kelvin was dead when this event happened because of the question Are you him?). And this new event changed things in a great matter. How? Desmond put Penny in danger. He dragged her back to UK, then to USA leading her straight to Bens arms. Desmond gets shot. Hawking has no idea what happens next. How? Because Desmond never got shot before. Why would Charles be so sure that Ben would never find his daughter? Why would he be so surprised when Ben called him and said he is looking at „Our Mutual Friend „ (also the title of the book Desmond is saving for the end)? Why would he come to the hospital to check on Desmond if he wasnt really worried? Both of them knew what happens next. But this ti! me, NO! This never happened before. Desmond was never shot by ! Ben befo re. It has nothing to do with the time loop. I think they somehow knew the course of events hence Ben being sure that Alex will survive, Ben saying he cannot kill Charles (I still dont believe in the part Dont kill one of your own, perhaps the gun would jam like in Michael case or something else would happen because island wouldnt let that happen or because it never actually did happen), Hawking telling Des he cant buy the ring etc. And they all made sure that these events happen the way they were suppose to.
