The writers got a little bit off course with this idea but through the first 3 seasons they had a very prominent way to intoduce a new character and a new setting on the show in the very beginning moments of each season. For example the opening of season 1 we see a man (Jack) that we do not already know, and he is waking up on the island, a place we have never seen before. Season 2 starts off the same way with Desmond, a character we have never seen before, inside the hatch (which we may have been unaware of at first) but nonetheless introduces a place that we have yet to see the inside of before on the show. Also the thrid season begins with Juliet, a character we had not seen yet, in a house putting on a CD. We begin to think she is in the real world only for all of the others to rush outside to watch 815 break apaart in the sky, revealing the Barracks, also a place we had not seen before this point. Now this i! s where things go a little bit off the rails. It now seems obvious that episode 2 should have been the first of season 4, not sure if there was a reason for this, but in this episode, if it would have been the first we would have been introduced to the freighties, characters we had not seen before on the show, and also a knew setting which would be none other than the freighter. They did get back on track with the opening of season 5 in which Pierre Chang is awakened by the crying baby, and we get to see him who we have only briefly seen on the show, taking place in the dharma initiative days, which we had heard alot about but never really seen much of.
With all of this information i believe it is safe to say that the opening to season 6 will be very close to this idea. It is hard to speculate as you know the writers would not like to be predictable but i believe season 6 will start in this same exact way. I have a few ideas of who/what this new person place will be and i am open to others suggestions as well.
A few of my guesses are:
We could start out on the Black Rock, maybe a few minutes into the opening scene we see Richard and begin to settle down thinking this is the character they are going with only in the end to be shown Mangus or Alvar Hanso or someone that we have been waiting to see for a long time and until now have only heard about.
That idea might seem to obvious as, as soon as we see that we are starting on a ship everyone will know that we are on the black rock. But heres another suggestion. Maybe what we see is something much more confusing but still sticks to the same general outline. My idea is that Jacob and MIB are brothers or in someway related. We will see a very distant flashback to their arrival on the island in which we will see 2 young children also with another group of people on a boat or however they get there. This is how and when we will learn a few things about MIB. They will show a good part of this scene and leave us confused after showing that this boat was not the Black Rock. By the end of the episode we go back to this point and see this new group of people on the island, in the past. Im guessing that MIB kills everyone but for some reason he cant kill Jacob. Leaving them as the only 2 left on the island. the final scene of S6 premiere will be Child Jacob and MIB standing amongs! t a bunch of dead bodies. This is where we will learn MIB's real name (since everyone is speculating by calling him smokey,esau,etc. the writers will clear this up right away). But anyway in this final scene it will be Jacob saying "Why did u do that ****(name)? They were all good innocent people." MIB replies "I had to do it Jacob, I needed to protect the island"
