I POSTED THIS THEORY IN THE ULTIMATE SEASON 6 THEORY CONTEST. IT HAS BEEN EDITED FOR SPOILERS AND I AM NOW POSTING IT ON HERE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK ON MY IDEAS OF HOW THE REST OF THE SERIES WILL PLAY OUT. ENJOY!
Many people have been arguing their sides for the belief that either the detonation of the nuke will reset things or whatever happened happened. here is my take...
I for one, believe this idea of deciding between WHH and Reset, is an oversimplification of a show that we all know is much more complex than to end up having one simple answer. Lost has never been a this or that type of show, but more often has used the blending of conflicting topics to keep the show wide open and intriguing. If you think this was all a set up to keep us off balance for them to come down to the end and say "it was this not that" then you are terribly mistaken. So here is my blend theory for WHH and Reset.
Season 6 will begin with our survivors waking up amidst the crash on the island. This makes a case for the reset idea but also has another layer to it. After all, according to the reset theory, the flight would be landing safely at LAX. But what about course-correction? Yes maybe the detonation of the Nuke in "the incident" may have negated the energy causing the swan to never be built. Keep in mind this was still almost 30 years before the crash. As we may not be sure of all of the rules of course correction, i would say it is a safe bet to theroize that over 30 years (if these people all really did end up on the island for a reason) that course correction would have found a way to make it happen (WHH). I believe that all of our characters who were in the 1970s may or may not remember what happened right away. Over time maybe just this group of losties will slowly begin to remember. This will however have no affect on the rest of the survivors of the plane crash as they hav! e not undergone the effects of the islands properties and they are safe from all of the effects and after effects of the time traveling. Maybe we see everything happen the same way it did in the pilot. The only difference being that our favorite characters have conciousness traveled to their bodies at the point in time of the crash. Like Desmods traveleing in the constant, he wakes up back in the royal scots, believing he had a dream that he was in the helicopter and so on when really it actually had already happened and he slowly begins to figure that out. As they start to remember how everything played out they try to influence the events in order to do what they believe is right now that they have a second chance at things. All in all i believe this will circle us back to reveal the pivotal point (a point in the show we have already seen) and prove that this was the point where everything changed and lead them to reexperience everything that has already happened. The goa! l would be to stop this event from occuring, sort of like the ! iniciden t idea. In the incident we were unsure if they were trying to stop it or if they were actually going to cause it (Miles). That is because it was only their first crack at it and they themselves were unsure. But this time, the second time we are experiencing the crash, as the information starts to come back to our time traveling losties they will realize what really needs to happen for things to be fixed. According to this idea it is possible that the island is much different from the first time around. All of the events that they have influenced in the past stand true in the time they are in now (WHH). For example maybe the swan station was never built. "Destiny is a fickle bitch" based on the idea of course correction lets say there are some things that can be compromised and some that cant. For example the reason for the plane crash was different due to the fact that there is no swan, but then again the plane inevitably crashes. Destiny and course correction pick and chose! the events that are most important and leave the details of how they happen as minor. Like the man who was killed by the scaffolding as predicted by Eloise. "If i'd have told him he would have been hit by a bus..." this shows that destiny is only concerned with the ends and not as much about the means. A La, Flight 815 and its "special" passengers must arrive on the island... how that happens however, not so important. Anyway, i believe that there is a group of individuals working strongly together to impede this process of what needs to happen such as Ben, Widmore and many more. The idea of time loops shows us that maybe destiny does have a plan, and it is taking its players around and around until they can accomplish what they need to accomplish. This is where my idea of a central point in the show that we have already seen comes in. If i had to speculate about what point in time this is, it would have to be the call that jack makes to the freighter. This was the "Beginn! ing of the end". Destiny will run these characters through thi! s loop i n time until they get it right. Consider the fact that if that call is never made, the wheel is never turned and all of the unpredictable effects of turning it never occur. This is what the final episode of lost will come down to, stopping this call and ultimately stopping/destroying the wheel, maybe even the entire island. Any writer knows the rule that if u show a gun in the first act, it must go off by the end. This tells me that by the end of the show, the rest of the jughead will be detonated destroying the island and all of its energy. maybe this will be the only way to fix everything and to save the world once and for all.
here are a few of my reasons for my precition that this is not a case of either or but rather a blend of WHH and Reset.
1) We now should know that there is something more important going on than just the characters trying to save themselves. This point is proved by the fact that for the first 3 seasons thats all they were trying to do was to save themselves by getting off the island. And also this is what ends up causing all the problems that occur as a result of the call being made. Destiny has chosen these people to sacrifice themselves to save the world and mankind.
2)***DELETED DUE TO SPOILERS***
3) This flash from 1970 to the 2004 and the crash will happen exactly the same way as all of the random flashes that occured in seasons 4/5. It seemed as if they were being sent to different times to accomplish a certain thing and then they would flash again. They were not meant to be a part of this history but more like pawns being sent back to change it or make sure it happens the way it did.
--->3) If we look back at each of the flashes it is easy to see that they were being sent to these times to make certain things happen. Such as Faraday going to desmond in the hatch to tell him what is happening, sawyer grabbing the rope that leads to the well and holding it through the flash which keeps the rope intact revealing the location of the wheel farther back in the past, and also when they were out on the outrigger, they were being chased. Juliet shot and killed someone and then they flashed. They were being sent to these times for specfific reasons.
4) Now it is hard to say for sure but it seems like Jacob or whoever is in control knew that things werent going to work out as planned and he needed to figure out the point in time that things must be altered in order to give the Losties the opportunity to achieve their final goal.
5) The final goal is to stop this central point in which everything turned, when the call was made to the freighter. Without this no one ever travels through time or flashes between different times. The rope to the wheel would be another key point as sawyer holding the rope would have never happened and maybe the wheel never was discovered.
I tired very hard to stay on topic but with my idea of the blend of WHH and Reset it was kind of hard to stay clear. I like this idea but would not like to see this as the true enbding to the show because i want to be surprised. And us much as I or anyone else can theorize we will never figure it out and we will all be surprised.
If you got through this thanks for reading.
