Some of these points may have been made already, and it is a bit long winded and abstract. So aplogies in advance.
It seems to me that people who think ALT can happen are taking Hurleys side, and people who believe WHH are siding with Miles. From the episode where they discuss time travel.
The point of this analogy is that Hurley, for a while at least, cannot comprehend a simple but important fact. And to me this is the same fact that ALT followers are also ignoring.
To the O6 and the rest of their time travelling buddies, their experiences in the 70s are their PRESENT. Their youthful counterparts in the real world are experiencing their PAST. Sawyer's camp has been on the same timeline as the O6. 3 years passed for both teams from the point where Locke turned the FDW. This doesn’t apply to Locke, who skipped forward 3 years. Well...more than 3 years...because he came from the past. Maybe this is a random attribute brought about by the timing of the O6 returning.
What I am trying to get at is;
It is the present for all of the Losties. So free will is a given. However, you could look up the results of their free choices in a Dharma history book. If such a thing exists. The consequences of their actions are evident throughout the show.
The Swan was meant to be for research. Radzinsky wanted to change the world. In the future, this is a Dam for massive amounts of energy, and the pocket of Energy that Radzinsky wanted to study is encased in concrete (I genuinely think that jack or someone will tell candle to pour the concrete, make a release mechanism and oh, you have 108 minutes to do it or else).
Radzinsky shot himself. Candle never looked particularly happy when reffering to the incident. And if i remember right, there was a cut on the tape before he could explain what happened in said incident.
Elouise....and Faradays Journal. Some are touting this as ALTs proof, or at least a new and interesting paradox.
Kinda goes back to my point about Hurley and Miles.
So, Eloise lives through the incident. Unless ALT is true, in which case she is probably wiped out by a nuke, with the rest of the island. Sounds like good prep for an epic series finale (??)

Presumably, there would be testable information, events that happen at recorded times etc. So she checks out the info. It holds up to scrutiny. She realises WHH. Maybe she tries to test it. Who knows?
We know this. The result of the Incident was important. Otherwise why would she send Dan to the Island? She is working in the interest of someone, maybe MIB, Jacob, Widmore, or even herself (Maybe opposed to Widmore?). She doesn't know what will happen next now. None of us do.
And, when it comes down to it, Miles Vs Hurley, who do you think is gonna be right about time travel?
The Others have known that these people were going to arrive on the Island one day. Most likely only the top tier, Richard, Eloise, Widmore and maybe Ben. Their free choices in the past have helped make the island what it is today.
All you Alt believers, go back and listen to miles explaining time travel to hurley. When hurley asks about Ben remembering Sayid, Miles realises Ben did remember him, but didnt say anything. That Ben could potentially know a lot more than he has let on. Hence why he asked hurley to ask him more questions about time travel. If the time travelling losties dont teleport to 2000whatever because of the incident, but have to live through the time gap between them and the other group then this could apply even more extremely.
