Jacob and MIB are playing a game, obviously. My theory is that its a groundhogs day (the movie) type game. MIB and Jacob play there game to see who wins. And MIB states, "it always ends the same."
What does this mean?
It means that this game is RECURRING. The game has ended MULTIPLE times. The game ends, and it RESETS.
MIB and Jacob talking on the beach is where the game starts again. It's the beginning.
So, it's like the groundhogs day movie because everytime the main character does something, or anything just a little bit differently, there are massive changes in the game.
So, lets say that in one iteration of the game, MIB kills jack in the pilot. That means that there are major ramifications to the overall game. And it always ends the same.
Also, it is like the matrix, because the matrix has many failed versions (architect says 6). There are multiple versions of what happens on to the losties. Jacob and MIB have been re-setting the game, playing it over and over again, meaning that the story of lost has been told many times, but with different variables.
I'm pretty sure that in one version, there is no crash of flight 815.
So what does this mean?
Jacob realizes that the only way to end the game, and defeat MIB, is to die. Because what happens AFTER there game is what neither of them knows what is going to happen.
Also, this makes MIB MUCH more human. He has become numb to human life because he has played this game for so long, and sacrificed so many lives, just to win the game, that the death of locke is nothing to him. He is just another sacrifice. At first, I thought MIB would think little of Locke. But I believe he thinks nothing of him.
He thinks nothing of everyone, he has no feelings or opinions. All he cared about was winning. Does this make him Evil?
The losties will be the ones judging him on that.
