This theory is based on the sequence of the scenes at the end of the final episode. 1)In 2007 Jacob is killed. 2)The H bomb is finally detonated by Juliet.
I believe that the incident was actually the release of the electromagnetic energy. The detonation of the bomb did not prevent the development of the Swan and its protocol. However it did lessen the release of the energy, which is why Dharma used a bomb as a fail safe devive. The device that Desmond detonated in the hatch when the numbers were not entered in the computer.
As a result of Jacobs death the Losties will be transported to 2007. This was not supposed to happen in the original timeline. I don't know exactly how, but the death of Jacob results in this deviation. The LOSTIES are coming! that's who Jacob was referring to. The fake Locke looked surprised and angry when he said this, he wasn't expecting it. I feel that Jacob knew this was what would happen in the event of his death. He did not exactly try and fight Ben he actually sort of provoked him. This is why Jacob visited the Losties at various points, and just because we did not see him visit Juliet doesn't mean it didn't happen. This may become apparent next season. The reasoning of these visits? because FREE WILL wins!
Ultimately, Jacob had to die for the sake of the island and for the war to be won.
