Seeing the Statue and the Sailing Ship in the opening scene of the Season 5 Finale reminded me of two nagging questions.
1) Why did the Black Rock find itself in the middle of the Island?
2) How was the Statue destroyed and why are there no visible evidence other than a foot.
The answer to both questions could be a Tsunami.
The incoming swell could deposit the Black Rock inland without too much damage. The same wave could have knocked down the statue on the way in. On the way out, the receding waters would have deposited enough sand and earth over the shattered remains to bury what was left…except the foot, of course.
