I woke up with a thought about Jacob's demise in the fire pit.
What comes of fire? SMOKE!!
I know it's crazy, but I think most everybody feels that he let himself die at Ben's hands for a reason, and I don't think the kicking of his body into the fire was incidental either. What if he meant to be kicked in that fire and his body now turns into the white smoke monster Locke seems to have seen so long ago.
Now obviously Locke saw this before Jacob was burned, but perhaps what Locke saw was a vision of what would come, just as anybody else has seen any other vision.
To tie it together, my next thought leapt to Carnivale. In that show there were dark and light magical entities which gave birth to sons or daughters who became a new generation of dark and light entities, but only one of each were born to each generation.
I thought of that when I was trying to understand the relationship between Smokey and Jacob's Nemesis. Jacob's Enemy of course is speculated to be the embodyment of dark. Could it be that Smokey is the deceased version of a former person who was the embodyment of the dark entity?
If so, then that sets up the title of being the light or dark entity as a legacy title, capable of being passed on once the current holder of it dies.
And that means that Jacob choose his own death in order to pass this title on to someone he choose.
Now here comes the big Big BIG twist.
It's a common belief that Jacob's Nemesis someone manipulated Ben into killing Locke so that he could later take over Locke's body. Using Locke's body he would further manipulate Ben into killing Jacob.
But Jacob knew this, and he knew that his title as the light entity could be passed on at his death. So he himself bated Ben into killing him so that he could transfer his essence into his chosen successor.
Enter Locke's Dead Body,
The essence of the light entity will take over Locke's dead body. I don't know if it's necessary that he was dead for the light entity to do this. I don't know if Locke will be himself, or if Jacob will take over his form. But I guarantee you that this title of being a light or dark entity will be passed to Locke, and Locke or his body will lead everybody in winning.
