This is basic, simple answer to the power basic mystery. There are at least three aliens that have landed on earth in their spaceship, the island. Jacob and Richard like playing with humans and the Other with No name (yet) is against it. They are not supposed to do things to humans, but they play with our minds and get us to do things. Not sure exactly why, just bored perhaps since they have been here a very long time. They naturally form is a black cloud and can take on any human form; Richard has not aged in at least 30 years, Jacob and the other unnamed one have looked the same for at least a hundred years when the sail boat was tricked to come to the island by Jacob, angering the other one to want to kill him….but can’t without some loop hole. That loop hole is when John is killed by Ben and the unnamed aliens takes on John’s form when the plane crashes and manipulates Ben into killing Jacob…the loop! hole.
Jacob trapped the unnamed one in the old house with some sort of ashes as the fence. But someone let him out with a little path over the ash. Thus allowing him to go about his plan to kill Jacob.
