My theory is : Jacobs counterpart or Flocke represents the Island while Jacob represents the intrests of the islands people. This is why Locke saw smokey/island/Flocke as beautiful,white,he looked into the eyes of the Island and met Flocke. Locke has been influenced by this force ever since and probally always has been (even as a child he drew this)because of the time loop.Locke ends up dying for the island and becomes one with the island. So now Flocke is really half old Locke half the Island. Locke becoming reborn as the Island itself is pretty cool.
