I think Abrams' conception of LOST is about a spiritual journey. LOST may be all about how the journey of life moves us as humans - emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I think LOST is about how our individual actions have consequences.... and how choices have major implications. What if LOST is about how the individual actions of the people selected have consequences.... and how choices have major implications. This kind of fits with the gaming theory... One person takes a step or a move and it alters the next person's step or move...
It fits...
So who selects the people? We have the recurring theme of “lists.” Is it the Island? Is it Jacob? I think it is Jacob and his beach buddy. Furthermore, Jacob and his beach buddy (I prefer that to AJ) may have the capacity to manipulate time.
What if Ben did NOT kill Jacob at the end of Season 5? Everyone seems to assume Jacob is dead. What have DARLTON been asking quite consistently??? WHAT IS DEAD??
I am not assuming Jacob is dead. I think that Jacob and his beach buddy have existed on that island for a LONG time. I think that they either bring people to the island on purpose - and/or - wait until people show up. Then they use those people to play out the game of CHOICE. They watch the moves the people make.
We have to think outside the box (no pun intended to the box containing Locke’s casket) - and what if Jacob manipulated all those people on the first Oceanic Flight 815 - and somehow during the process of the crash - they are dropped on the island at their OWN personal time lines. The people are not aware of it.... except Locke. What if Locke can walk after the first crash - because for HIM - Jacob took Locke back to a time PRIOR to his paralysis. What if Jacob plopped Locke on the island after the crash of O 815 in Locke’s own personal timeline and Locke can walk because that Locke had not fallen from the tall building and was not paralyzed yet.
Furthermore, Locke is alive after the second crash of Ajira Flight 316 because for Locke, Jacob took Locke back to a time PRIOR to his death then plopped him on the island.
There may be no “FLOCKE.” There may be various Locke’s from different points in time. The dead body is real Locke as is the Locke who survived Ajira Flight 316. All are real Lockes from different points in time brought to the island by a force – perhaps Jacob.
Again, I think Abrams' conception of LOST is a spiritual journey. The Island is a representation of a this journey in life of choices. Those choices deal with the universal themes of good v evil.
I feel that in order to keep fans discussing LOST at the water cooler, the writers are throwing in scaps and leaking information to us fans like scraps to hungry dogs... or pellets to Skinner's (or Daniel's) white lab rats.
That's my take on the Meaning of LOST.
