The overall theme of LOST, I believe was explained in the first season. “Two players, two sides, one is light, and one is dark”
I believe LOST, is a chess game between two players.
Smokie represents the dark side.
Jacob represents the white side.
While the losties represent pawns in this battle. Some are stronger pieces (like castles in chess) such as Ben, Widmore, Desmond, Locke, Jack, Hawking, and others.
Some must be sacrificed to defeat your opponent in order to finally win the game.
And what is the purpose of this game you ask?
This game is to decide the fate of mankind.
This is my Analysis of events so far.
First, the island. I believe the island is geologically unique. It contains vast amounts of electromagnetism at its core; this electromagnetism is what causes the islands continuous movement through time.
But the island itself isn’t what’s important.
What’s important is what it represents. A lair for the smoke monster.
What is the smoke monster you ask?
The smoke monster is, for lack of a better word. Death it self. The bringer of the end of the word. All that stuff. There’s always been talk of doomsday/the end of the world.
And the smoke monster is the, force that knows when it’s supposed to happen/the one who does it.
So, in the 1800's or before, the Egyptians land on the island, and discover Smokie. They believe him to be a god and begin building their structures. On the island. They build their large temple right over Smokies cave, and build a shrine to their god below it.
One day, two babies are born. Jacob and Esau. Being born on the island, will eventually give the babies great power.
Jacob becomes a wise man and quickly rises through the ranks to become leader of the Egyptians.
Esau is stronger and prefers the hunting lifestyle. He also gets into trouble often and is often considered troublesome. It is only the intervention of his brother’s leadership that has preventing the people from kicking Esau off the island
Jacob however, still keeps his brother close to his side and together they lead their people in building and exploring the island.
One day Jacob, somehow finds the smoke monsters lair, and begins conversing with it. Jacob eventually learns that the smoke monster IS the one who is supposed to remove man kind.
Jacob however, is an optimist at heart and is constantly trying to convince the smoke monster that mankind is worth saving.
The smoke monster, is unhappy with having people on the island, but only allows them to stay because of Jacob. He enjoys his deep arguments with Jacob about mankind. He thinks its almost “Cute” How Jacob has such faith in mankind.
However, one day Jacob becomes more then just a converstationist.
He takes matters into his own hand and brings the black rock to the island. He does this in order to prove that two very different civilisations can get along and live in peace. He thinks if he can prove this, that the black smoke will spare mankind.
Esau however, Jacob’s brother disagrees with what Jacob is doing.
He thinks he's putting his people in danger by doing this. Unknown to Esau, his mind is being manipulated by the smoke monster.
One day he is approached by the smoke monster, who promises to help him protect his remaining people but only if he repents his wicked ways.
Esau agrees and repents for all the bad things he has done in his life.
Suddenly there is a great flash in the sky, and the black rock arrives in the centre of the island. (Caused by Locke turning the wheel in the past).
Esau meets the black rock people, and begins to convince them that Jacob is a terrible leader and must be removed. The Black Rockies agree to fight with Esau in order to free the Egyptians for “Jacob’s” rule.
The Egyptians and the Black Rockies fight a great battle.
The more advanced Black Rockies use their guns and swords to overwhelm most of the Egyptians. The attacking Rockies route Jacob into his temple. Their last surviving leader is Richard Alpert. The captain and first mate being killed in the battle.
Richard and Esau follow Jacob into the temple, where Esau orders Richard to kill Jacob.
Jacob and Richard come face to face. Jacob tells Richard that what he is doing here is very important; to everyone on the planet and that what he is doing is nesscary.
He also tells Richard he has a choice, and doesn’t have to kill him if he doesn’t want to.
Richard is tired of the violence and doesn’t want to kill Jacob just remove him from the island. Esau however is to the point of insanity and tries to kill Jacob himself.
Richard fatally shoots Esau, killing him and saving Jacob.
Jacob thanks Richard, and blessing him with the power of immortality for saving him. He promises to explain why he brought them to the island.
So, the remaining Egyptians and Black Rock folks have conformed into one people.
The battle however has left the land badly damaged, and destroyed the great staute, represnting the goddess of child birth, angering her greatly.
The smoke monster, is shocked, that after the battle the two sides could still live in peace.
Jacob believes that if given the choice, people will chose peace over war, and give into their good side.
The smoke most is so sure he is right and that the society of united people will not last. Jacob is sure it will.
So, they create a game of sorts. Jacob will bring people to the island, and assimilate them into his "enlightened people" while the smoke monster will try and break apart this civilisation. However long the "enlightened people" co-exist on the island, the smoke monster will spare man kind. However if the civilisation should fail, then the smoke monster will be free to bring about the end of the world, as there will be no hope for mankind.
Jacob's "others" exist for a long time. Jacob brings more people to the island, such as the U.S army, or DHARMA and while it does always end in war, SOME people from each civilisation do eventually conform to the others ways. This is considered a victory for Jacob.
This game eventually moves PAST The point of the end of mankind. (Predicted in the Valenzetti equation) Jacob has actually put off the end of the world.
However, the rules of their game prevent Smokie from killing Jacob directly as well as kills his people. Smokie is only allowed to test/manipulate outsiders. While Jacob is NOT allowed to interfere with Smokies attempted corruption of his people.
The game is all about man-kind. So ONLY mankind/ an outsider can kill Jacob.
One day John Locke arrives from the future. He say’s that he is to lead the others, and he needs to find a way off the island. Smokie, aware of everything on the island, is able to read his memories and discover some future events that have taken place.
It is at this moment that Smokie creates a complicated plan, that will trick one of Jacob's people into killing him, thus leaving Smokie free to whipe out the "enlightened" and destroy man kind.
Jacob however does create an advisor, for in the form of Richard. Richard is the only one who knows what’s going on, and gives the people Jacob's orders.
Later, more survivors from the future come, and cause a great incident. They set off a nuclear bomb, and Esau believes they are killed in the explosion. The nuclear explosion gives the goddess an excuse to remove pregnancy from the island.
Esau’s abilities meanwhile, have allowed him to survive in spirit form. He becomes the smoke monsters pawn and is constantly trying to manipulate the sides into war.
In order prevent this, Jacob eventually orders Richard to trap his brothers spirit away. Richard chooses Horace’s cabin.
He draws Esau’s spirit to the point, under the excuse that he wants to betray Jacob and help the smoke monster.
While is he conversing with the spirit, the others surround it with black ash trapping Esau within.
However, this was part of Esau and Smokies overall plan. As the cabin allows The Smokie monster to eventually make contact with Locke and Ben, who will eventually be the one to kill Jacob.
Ben you see becomes a special case.
The others great temple, was built over Smokies lair. They build a large hole into the centre of the temples rooms so that the smoke monster could rise up into the temple and converse with them.
Richard knows the smoke monster is the only thing on the island that can save Ben. So, instead of letting a young boy die (like they preached about the entire episode) he takes young Ben to the smoke monster to be healed.
The price of this healing? Ben will forever be one of Smokies pawns, and thus will never be able to converse with Jacob.
However despite this, Ben is one day made leader of the others as Richard is hopefully Ben will one day be able to free himself from Smokies influence.
Until that day, Ben receives Jacob’s command through Richard.
Ben himself is seeminly aware that he is not good enough. He concentrates hard on the pregnancy issue in order to make the gods belive he is a good person and become immunine to evil.
Unknown to Richard, Ben is receiving visions from Esau about how to lead and where to find the cabin. Esau is pretending to be Jacob, giving Ben orders.
Ben however, is only a place holder(both for Black shirt and Richard) until John Locke arrives and finds the others
Years later, flight 815 crashes on the island. Smokie sees his ultimate chance to kill Jacob. He has finally found John Locke.
Smokie uses visions to manipulate Locke into becoming the ultimate man of faith that will eventually leave the island, die, come back, and bring Ben to Jacob.
While Ben was being manipulated by Black shirt,(I used to have dreams) he was never part of the original kill Jacob plan. The reason that he got the tumour was because Black Shirt was done using him. He wanted Ben to die. When Ben took matters into his own hands, (with Jack) Black Shirt actually wanted Locke to prevent it. He sent him in the right direction of Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Black Shirt, originally only wanted to use Ben to manipulate his people, and then die. Leaving room for John Locke to take leadership of a disillusioned tribe. He would have used Eko to move the island, and to truly bring back the 06,
while Locke went off island to try and bring everyone back, and then die.
Meanwhile, Ben would have remained on the island, and most likely killed by the smoke monster or died in the flashes. At this point, (in Black Shirt's mind) he would be done with Ben.
Eko would act as the off-island faith boy, bringing everyone back (along with dead Locke). They would recrash on the island. The 04 would go to the 1970’s (where Black Shirt THOUGHT they’d die in the Incident, he had no idea that the losties would return to the present time that will be Jacob's doing) and he would come back as "Locke".
Fake Locke would bring Eko with him to the others, and even ask that his old buddy Eko be brought into the meeting with Jacob because they BOTH went through so much. Fake Locke would tell Eko that the island wants Jacob dead, and it would be Echo’s job to kill Jacob.
However, It was not to be
Eko, did what no one has done until Season 5. He figured out there is evil in the island. That it WASNT his brother. And he was killed for it.
So, while he knew that Locke was the body, he now needed a new weapon. So Smokie set his sites on Ben. Ben became the new weapon. He used Ben's desire to lead, and his past anger toward Jacob (being ignored) to fill Eko's place as his weapon.
So, Esau was eventually freed by Locke and took over his body. He led his soldier boy Ben to Jacob, who murdered him.
Esau and Smokie both thought they had won.
However, Jacob spoke his dying words “they’re coming”
Esau is now aware that Jacob has sent one last fighting force to challenge them.
Season 6 will deal with Richard coming clean about what the "others" represent (The last great example of why man-kind should live), and how the losties will be the last line of defence against Smokie, Esau and the end of man-kind.
Jacob will exist in spirit form much like his brother. Which will give him greater abilities. He will use this power to fully ressurect John Locke in order to help in the coming war.
Esau meanwhile, will manipulate his people into thinking he did the right thing by killing Jacob and they will become his army.
The final season 6 conflict will be
Jack, John, the losties, Widmore, Desmond, Hawking, Richard, and the "Shadow of the statue" people.
VS
Esau/FakeLocke, Ben, the others, the remaining 316ers and the smokie
