As Charles Widmore said in season 5, there is a war coming on the island and my guess is that this war is going to find Jack and Sawyer in opposite teams, Sawyer will be angry of the outcome from the incident with Juliet's death, and will be approached by Jacob's enemy.
As we already seen so far, Jacob's enemy (Essau) approached Ben and took advantage of Ben's negative feelings against Jacob, just before he gave the knife to Ben, he said everything will be different once Jacob is gone and his misery will end. I think the same happened in season 2 when he approached Hurley, taking the form of his imaginary friend and tried to persuade him that when he jumps down the cliff he will be free, but he didnt succeed. So thats his part in this game of people, he takes advantage of their negative feelings in order to prove JAcob wrong.
And thats exactly what happened with John Locke, although i dont want to believe that his is gone as a character cause he was my favorite, everything indicates the opposite. John needed to feel somewhere special, he was treated really bad as a child and ever worse when he got older. His own father stole his kidney and then tried to kill him. Jacob's enemy manipulated him and everyone else by creating a fake image of Locke being special, he might be the one who healed John's paralysis from the very begining in order to make him feel that there is something special with the island, furthermore he might be the one who didnt allow him to die in season 3 when Ben shot him and the bullet passed through his missing kidney.
Richard didnt find anything special about Locke when he visited him as a child and he was probably right, but at the end he got fooled too. So Jacob's enemy managed to persuade everyone that Lock is special in his quest to find and kill Jacob. As we see in the final scene, just before Jacob is killed, Essau says '' You have no idea what ive been through to be here... we will probably see more details of how he achieved this in season 6. There might be someone special indeed between the losties
So whats coming next, my guess is that Sawyer will be Jacob's enemy weapon. Feeling frustrated and angry for losing his life in the dharma village and watching his love, Juliet dying, he will sure be looking for revenge next season, blaming Jack for all these, and probaly is going to be manipulated just like Locke was.
All people who arrive in this island are used as pawns, in a bigger game, a game of people with specific rules, writen in the ''book of Laws''. Mr Eko found that book in season 2 and understood exactly what is this island about.
