The going to see Jacob pilgrimage is very symbolic biblically because after JESUS died and was resurected the veil was torn in the temple and now everyone could approach the throne of God. ( Nikiah my friend pointed this out.. all credit to her) Before then only preist could enter in to the HOlyplace in the temple. I think the island IS the temple. Locke Knows that Richard can't go to Jacob because he is SATAN.. or he will be exposed!
Richard is not a keeper of the island, but indeed Satan? Say it aint so Joe! Satan has the ability to imitate what God can do, but he is limited because he is a mere fallen angel. Infact he was a an angel, very beautiful when he spoke music was heard but he thought himself greater than God and he was thrown out of heaven. He also took a host of angels with him. What if the Other's really are the Hostiles of Heaven so to speak. If Richard actually communed with the island he would know ALL about Locke jumping time in the woods he wouldn't be suprised to see Locke again and, he would have known who the 815ers were at ALL times (1952, 1977). Richard always seems to do his own thing.. and I don't believe he knows where Jacob is that is why he is scared.
