John Locke, the regional collections supervisor for a box company is now the supreme master of the universe. But with this power, will he do good or evil. Locke, protagonist, or Locke, antagonist.
Good versus evil? When John Locke died, he must have lost something, whether it be his soul, his conscience, it was something important. I think it was probably the good part of him that died when Linus murdered him.
You see, it was obvious that Linus murdered him for a reason, and I propose that reason was to turn him into some form of evil being/puppet/psycho. Does he have a mind of his own anymore, or is he merely a manifestation of the island, like Claire and Christian Shepherd? Remember that it was Christian (i.e. the island, or some manifestation of it) that told him to die! I think with the culmination of the series, John Locke will show his true colours against Jacob, and we'll learn whether the new locke is inherently good or bad.
You see, a man who is willing to murder to gain absolute power over the island is merely an evil dictator, and will in turn be judged himself. If Locke murders Jacob, and I believe that is entirely possible (whoever Jacob may be, see http://theoriesonlost.blogspot.com/2009/05/odds-on-j-j-j-jacob-seasonal-death-by.html), then he is leaving himself open to judgement by the island, and that will not be pleasant for him. If he kills Jacob, he will indeed be the antagonist of the following season against a Jack/Sayyid/everyone alliance.
If he is talked out of it, there is still hope for him yet.
But who is really pulling the strings: Ben? Alpert? No, I think this new, phantom Locke, has some real nasties up his sleave, but that really remains to be seen.
