I have read many comments on the personalities of Jacob and "the guy as known as Esau". I surely hope the writers don't lose it, because this thing is really getting complicated. Carlton said that there will be no Libby back-story which kinda disappointed me because that's bad writing - we still need an explanation for what she was doing at Santa Rosa, at least.
So, I see that no one around here wondered about this. The true meaning of Jacob name, in the Bible is "deceiver". If you read the story of Jacob you will find out that he deceived his own father and arouse his brother Esau's rage. Not only the name meaning to be a deceiver in the Bible, he was considered to be such a man. When he fought with the Angel in the valley, he had his name changed to Israel after this very event.
Watching the finale, I can clearly tell that Jacob is not "good". He, aware of his capabilities and powers, would have known that stopping Sayid at the traffic light, would have also killed Nadja - but why did he do this? Was it intentional? What about Locke? He was there and he knew Locke would fall, and all he says is "Sorry this happened to you"? Things are a little weird here!!!
And I am all with Ben on this one. I agree with every word Ben has directed personally to Jacob. And all he gets in return is a lifeless disdain reply: "What about you?". And if you carry on and remember the things "Jacob wanted" in the series - kidnapping babies, exterminating intruders in the island, Richard commissioning weirdo tasks for the "Others" recruits. So in every sense to me, Jacob is not "good".
I believe and I bet that the man in the black shirt, has every reason to be so upset in the first scene of finale.
I don't think Locke can be just dismissed as everybody is speculating. I don't fit the fan type, but killing good old Locke just like that is just stupid and bad writing - and will make followers freak out and the end of series. Just like Prison Break.
Locke was the only one faith guy, who went through hell on this earth, and sort of looked for something real in his life during his entire existency. He was the only one who believed and had faith in things, so killing off is just miserably wrong. I do hope we see him again, or that a very clever explanation is given to satisfy our minds. Locke was a key character and killing him off was a bad bad bad move. Even Sawyer could go away, because I can't tolerate anymore Jaters and Skaters - Locke is one of the only characters who is essential to the entire Lost storyline, specially after what he lived and gone through.
So, I really liked when Ben killed Jacob, the deceiver.
