You gotta love the writers right: they have us arguing about who Jacob is and whether or whether not he is real: so here's the theory:
This is why he has to be real:
~ WE PHYSICALLY SAW JACOB. Or we saw someone who was rocking in that chair, who is not Richard, but who is also "in" on the story that Jacob isn't real - which is all far-fetched. But moreover, there is no reason why the ash would be made important enough to have frames devoted to it, or why it would be there to begin with. Moreover, even if it was part of this weird conspiracy, why would there even be a cabin? Let alone a moving/secret cabin? Why couldn't Locke find it the second time in S4? Why did it suddenly appear to Hurely and who was THAT then? But even further, in the dream that Locke had, we saw Horace building a cabin? Why would Horace be trying to help Ben? That cabin clearly has importance and wouldn't just be part of a conspiracy.
~ If there is NO Jacob, then it doesn't make sense why the Island seems to be giving inconsistent messages. In the form it shows up to some people (i.e. Christian/Claire) is distinctly different then the other forms (i.e. Smokey). They aren't both from the same people. The messages have been mixed as of late, and there is definitely another force on the island. It's too late for the writers to add another party.
~ Richard and Ben both look genuinely concerned. And we know Richard is ages, ages old - but being immortal and not the leader, you gotta believe that he is working for some higher force, and if he was actualyl working for a higher force, there is no need to fake jacob, why not just say "that higher force" is giving me orders.
~ But even further, it would be a Cop-Out, the writers wouldn't just make it no one.
SO what does this mean:
(1) Either John Locke thinks that Jacob isn't real. He's going to give away, early in the episode that he doesn't think Jacob is real and that the myth of Jacob is what he is going to "metaphorically" kill, and thus free the people yada yada yada. However, knowing our writers, they will make this into a Finale Twist, because he's going to actually be there.
(2) If John doesn't think that, then he is literally going to kill Jacob.
Regardless of which, we move further to the SAME POINTS:
Ben and Richard are scared that John wants to visit Jacob. Why? Why on Earth wouldn't Richard want John to goto Jacob? Because Jacob, who HE trapped/contained is going to get out. If these were all truly Jacob's people, there is no need for him never to have even seen anyone? Not even Ben? Makes no sense. He works for the Island and the Island wants no one to know the truth except for a few (i.e. Locke, Richard, etc...) about the Island. Therefore, after stopping the evil force (Jacob) and containing him, they are afraid to let it out at all.
In the bible Jacob is the great-grandfather or Aaron. Which makes Jack/Claire his grandchildren, and makes Christian his son. Which makes sense considering the fact that Christian seems to be Jacob's spokeperson, and Claire has been in the cabin as well, and the show has placed immense importance over who raises Aaron, and why Jack - who is THE LEADING ACTOR as he has the most flashbacks of anyone, would be the son. Think about it - Jack has to have immense importance, and the writers would make him the offspring of the evil side of the island.
This also makes sense when you look historically of the Jack/John battles. From S1 they have always had tension, and it is going to be final battle - John vs. Jack, Island vs. Jacob, Good vs. Evil. If I was to guess I'd say that Jack will turn against Jacob at the end, join the side of Good and give the victory.
This is also why Jacob has been trying to get John of the island. Because Jacob knows that John is going to kill/fight him. Christian first told him to push the Donkey Wheel (not Ben) and then told him again that it was HE who was supposed to push it. Then he told him and he had to die to ensure there was no way he was coming back. This is in contrast with the Island trying to bring him back - i.e. Charles Widmore, Abaddon, etc... WHH, except for the variable that changed things - Jacob! Jacob is trying to change things because he knows that he gets defeated in the end by John. So somehow, he found a way to go through time, (maybe right before he lost the war) to try and kill/take John away from the island. That's why so so many people ahve been involved in his coming and going to the island - Island/Richard trying to get him, and Jacob trying to make him leave.
So why did Ben kill Locke? Because Ben WANTED TO BE THAT PERSON. Ben so badly wanted to be the leader of the Island to go into this epic battle that is about to happen - he has tried and tried, but just isn't the Island's chosen one.
The chosen one is Locke, who is no longer fooled by Jacob, and that is going to be the end of Season 6 - the end of the war - the Good side of the Island winning, and the Evil Side losing.
