I have thought about this for a while, I believe that Jacob is Aaron. This would be the reason why Claire doesn't want Aaron to come back to the island because Jacob is a threat to Claire and Christian. I believe Jacob aka Aaron came to the Island as an adult and somehow for whatever reason now is skipping through time or just lost in time. Which is why Jacob was not in the cabin when Locke met Christian in Jacob's cabin, I didn't think he ever skipped through time at that time, or he never existed during that time. Now Aaron is trying to make everything right again by changing the past and future to save everyone's lives, and also his own.
I also believe that all of what has happened thus far in LOST has already happened before, the show LOST and all of its Characters are in a constant loop just like... the COMPASS. Which is why the show is called LOST.
