So far, there hasn't seem to have been any duplicates of people in any given time period that the Losties have traveled to. We find out that adult Ben is not in 1977 with Sawyer, Jack, and their groups. When Sawyer and the group that stayed behind were jumping through time, he saw Kate and Claire. But, when he witnessed Claire and Kate, both (not for sure about Claire) were in a different time. Kate was in the current time period while Sawyer was witnessing the past.
Is it possible that, if an entity is present in a certain time period which they belong to (having "warped" there), that they won't be visible to the other people experiencing that time period for the first time? Could this explain Jacob's invisibility when Locke went to speak with him? Could Christian as we see him in current episodes be a pre-815 flight, pre-Australia, version? He's dead on the island, so he this past version becomes visible on the island. And, as a result of time travel, he knows that Locke will become "The Chosen One." Locke went to see Jacob but, what he didn't know, was that he was witnessing himself whom he could not see since "Jacob" was a duplicate of himself reliving life on the island.
The only thing keeping this from being close to valid is that Locke is not in the same time period that the 1977ers are. He'll have to travel back to that time like the rest of them did.
