So I was rewatching some of the season 4 episodes with my little brother and we realized something. When Hurley went to visit "Jacob" in the cabin (We all figured it's obviously Esau's cabin, not jacobs), he stumbled back and fell down on the floor. I believe he fell on the ash, as it doesn't show if he does or doesn't. Right after he fell, the cabin disappeared and Locked showed up right behind him.
After rewatching many episodes after the finale of season 5. We realized something else. There's most likely two versions of locke on the island. One good and one bad. If you watch throughout the seasons, locke can seem especially different in certain scenes. Watch the episodes again, and you might see what I mean. If this the case, as soon as Hurley fell on the ash and ruined the circle, Esau in the body of Locke came up behind him.
