As we saw in the episode "Dead Is Dead, Ben is in The Temple. He is looking at the hieroglyphics on the wall.
My question is how and why were they put there, as we learned that The Temple is where the smoke monster lives.
One of the hieroglyphics was the smoke monster looking at Anubus who is the god who protects the dead and bring them to the afterlife.
Was this carved by the Egyptians because the Smoke monster kills people and Anubus is there to greet them. If so, why didn't the Smoke monster kill the person who carved the sketchings as we know it tends to attack people or drag them into the Temple..Is it possible that one of the people that was taken down to the Temple etched this carving when the smoke monster was off getting another "victim".
Another possibility is that a few comments have been made that the Statue we have seen a few times was Anubus. Is it possible that the smoke monster is the reason the statue fell down.
Or could it be that one of the Losties went back in time and etched it themselves as a clue to help them when there past selves go there. The reason they would do this is maybe there is a major incident which occurs by the statue and involves Smokey.
Illana asked Frank (bram asked miles) "what lies in the shadow of the statue"..Is it possible they are time travveling themselves, they have been to the future and know what is going to happen and therefore asking the question to these people it is a test to see if they know what is going to happen as they cannot actually tell them what is going to happen as the Losties may try to change it (as we know Jack & kate are going to try to do)
That is why there are hieroglyphics in the Swan (where the button is pressed). The hieroglyphics mean "underworld" or "die". I think this was supposed to be a clue to themselves. The underworld could mean there is something under the staute and the die is that people are going to die because of an accident by the statue.
