The Episode the Variable (Ep. 514) proves that Daniel's what happened will always happened theory, and here is why I believe the original time line will not change. Near the end of episode 514 Eloise is leaving the hospital where Desomnd is now in stable condition. Charles Widmore approaches her and asks about Desmond's condition, Eloise says he's doing fine and is with Penny. She advises Charles to say hello to his daughter. Here is the conversation:
"Is he alright?"
"Yes, Charles, he's fine."
"Good."
"Your daughter's in there. Why don't you go in and say hello."
"Unfortunately, Eloise, my relationship with Penelope is one of the things I had to sacrifice."
"Sacrifice! Don't you talk to me about sacrifice, Charles! I had to send my son back to the island, knowing full well--"
"He's my son, too, Eloise."
Eloise slaps him and then gets in a taxi.
So here is where you find out that Eloise knew Daniel's fate before telling him to return to work for Widmore (who is his father.) Doing so would in turn place him back on the Island, which would skip through time after Ben Linus turned the wheel below the Orchid station, eventually landing him in 1977 where he would as he always had try to course correct thing and as it had already happened....get shot by his mother. Whatever happened, happened. Two more things just to further push this theory home, Eloise gave Daniel his journal and on the inside of the front cover wrote:
'Daniel, No matter what, remember, I will always love you. Mother'
An ominous thing for a mother to write on the inside of a graduation present, leading me to believe she knew something would occur between them which would make Daniel doubt her love. Plus this second point, as soon as Daniel tries to change the future he meets his fate. So EVERYTHING that is happening this season has really already happened.
Hope you enjoyed it and will let me know what you think.
