Faraday was all up on his high horse this week about preventing the Swan hatch incident; which will, in turn, prevent the need for the button-pushing protocol; which would prevent the crash of 815 (caused by Des failing to push the button exactly as 815 was flying overhead) - which, according to Faraday, means that 815 would land "on time" in Los Angeles.
WRONG!!!! Remember, based on what the pilot said, and what Cindy the flight attendant later confirmed - Flight 815 lost radio contact 6 hours into the flight and turned back toward Fiji. 1,000 miles AFTER changing course to Fiji, the plane crashed on the Island.
The Pilot:
"Six hours in, our radio went out. No one could see us. We turned back to land in Fiji. By the time we hit turbulence we were 1,000 miles off course. They're looking for us in the wrong place."
Cindy:
"Before the crash, the pilot said we'd lost communication, we were turning back. We were flying for 2 hours in the wrong direction. They don't know where to look."
What this means is that, even if the Swan was never built, Oceanic 815 would have STILL lost radio contact and turned back toward Fiji. The only difference is that they wouldn't have crashed on the Island halfway through their flight to Fiji. Instead, they would have landed in Fiji (not L.A. as Faraday suggested).
In fact, lets go even further and take the fake wreckage of 815 into account with this theoretical situation:
Flight 815 loses radio contact and turns back toward Fiji. They safely fly over the Island and continue on toward Fiji. For whatever reason, the pilot decides against landing in Fiji (lets say, for example, poor weather). Rather, they decide to continue on their current flight path and land in Indonesia. But, for whatever reason, the plane never makes it. Instead, the plane crashes off the Indonesian coast...in the Sunda Trench. All passengers aboard die.
I know, I know. Widmore's claim to have staged the wreckage "debunks" this whole theory. But it just seems like Widmore went through a lot unnecessary risk/effort to "protect" an island that no one seems to be able to find by conventional means anyway- including Widmore himself!!!
And why plant fake wreckage in the Indian Ocean anyway? Its nowhere near the Sydney to LA flight path!
Something is just not right here.
