I just started to ponder on whether Jacko and his wacky adventures are going to pay off. Simply, is he going to succeed?
I am obviously not a superior being. I have no idea, I can't read the future. So I can't tell whether it's going to work or not. But I'll assume that it will with this theory. This theory is about what would happen if the timeline were to change. Were would our characters be? Sure, they would be continuing their old lives doing their meaningless stuff. Jack would be angry and depressed and Kate would be in prison. But, I'd like to point at one of our regulars that perhaps wouldn't just continue his old life. I'm referring to Desmond. Desmond, as you might now, have already gone through a slight change in his timeline, in the episode of "Jughead".
Imagine being Desmond just waking up in a world that's completely different from the one you remember. Perhaps he isn't together with Penny in this alternative timeline. As you might suspect, this would be horrific. In a desperate move he decides to try and find Faraday's mother. And thus - he is introduced to the currently alive Faraday with a horrible case of short time memory (Faraday wouldn't be regular, but rather recurring - like Frank have been in this season). Together they would try and "set things right".
The reason why I think this theory could work is because it would neatly fit the hint that Faraday will be back in some form (by Darlton in the podcast) and also would introduce Desmond back in the plot (he would be needed by the Island again).
The reason why I somewhat doubt this theory is simply because of what's going on the island in current time. Jack and those guys aren't really about to set up for a upcoming adventure, theirs are pretty much about to end. But in current time, we're just about to be introduced to one. Locke have because Dr. Manhattan, and it would be a suicide (in terms of writing) to suddenly create an alternative timeline were he isn't Dr. Manhattan. It would be an anti-climax.
But, how could that be explained? I have yet again, no idea. I am not Dr. Manhattan. But I do have one guess:
This season quite neatly managed to tell a story through two different times. We had Locke+Sawyer+Farady+Charlotte+Miles+Juliet+Jin jumping about in the past (and future) and Jack+Kate+Sayid+Ben+Hurley+Desmond+Sun+Frank in the other (I decided to include Frank simply because I feel it would be bullying otherwise). Maybe we could end up seeing a story told in two different timelines? One of which is about Desmond trying to patch things together with a dysfunctional madcap (Faraday - okay, I am a fan of him and I do want him back, so I am perhaps a bit bias in this). And the other about Locke doing some badass action on the island.
