Okay guys, Ive been researching ancient egyptian mythology and trying to find a paralell with what weve seen on lost. Its a bit messy but bear with me and this whole theory(ies) please!
Basically, The statue weve seen resembles either the egyptian god Sobek or Anubis.

Heres a little about anubis...
"He judged the dead, weighing their souls to compare the good vs. evil they had done. He became identified as the god of embalming."
and Sobek....
"The Egyptians believed that besides having the form of a crocodile, Sobek also had its nature. He could also use this force to protect the justified dead in their after life from Seth, who attacked those souls who traveled through the land of the dead. He was the protector and rescuer of the other gods… yet he could also use that power to savage his enemies and the sinful deceased."
Possibly... Seth is the guy in black who we see chatting to Jacob on the beach, saying how much he wants to kill him. The Island is the land of the dead? And Seth uses smokey (ammit) to attack these souls? Im not sure but its sounding familiar.
Also Ammit could be the smoke monster, heres a little about Ammit...
"Also known as Eater of the Dead, the Devourer, Devourer of Amenti, Swallower of the Dead, or the Dweller in Amenta — the place where the sun sets." and ""A terrifying female Egyptian demon with the appearance of a fierce chimaera, Ammit — literally 'she who swallows the dead'"
From all the mythology pics ive found Ammit has the head of a crocodile, Now look at this pic of the smoke monster from season 4.

Interesting no? Maybee it was one of the producers notorious hints you dont pick up on till later on?
Basically, in ancient egyptian mythology Anubis judged you and decided your fate in regards to the underworld and whatnot. He would judge you by putting your heart on a set of scales that scales decided your fate. If your heart was as "light as a feather," you lived forever. If your heart was heavy, you were eaten by Ammit, the destroyer. And smokey is Ammit.

I know im going off on one here but also.....
"According to the most Ra well known myth Seth was jealous of his brother Wesir and betrayed and killed him, taking his throne. Through this action Wesir became ruler in the Underworld so that the deceased had a king and leader. Seth was later beaten by Horus, the son of Wesir and had to cede the throne to him."
Sound familiar? Jacob could be wesir? Seth killing his brother? I dunno but i feel like the pieces of the puzzle are slowly coming together with this mythology/ lost stuff!

I feel that from what ive found, this is a battle between good and evil, black and white. Notice how the title sequence changed to white at the end of the finale rather than the usual black? And also way back in season one where michael was being taught backgammon by locke. Locke explains
""Two players. Two sides. One is light, one is dark."
I must admit I doubt Richard Alpert is RA. The name pun is interesting but its to farfetched for him to be one of the highest mythological gods when he answers to Jacob.
I also thought that this bit about Sobek....(jacob?)

When Hurley was in the taxi with jacob, jacob told him he was blessed not cursed. It sounds mad but what if hurley was some form of god, but he just didnt know it? Also in season one where they took michael because he was 'special' Is it possible that he may also have the same characteristics?
