There are alot of theories out there about BlackShirt being the monster. I for one think that Darlton are a bit more clever than that. I mean it is so obvious that it almost can't be true. I believe that the Smoke Monster is more like a referee. Think about it, the monster is a security system for the island, the island is a game being played by Jacob and Blackshirt and there are rules to the game. The monster is there to call BS when someone tries to cheat.
How else are we to expect that in a game between unearthly forces they can be kept honest. When Ben claims that the rules have been changed he calls smokey. I think that he calls the smoke monster because he believes that the other side has cheated and the monster is there to protect the island, to protect the sanctity of the game.
Clearly Blackshirt is able to take on the forms of different people and I believe that Yemi on the Island was Blackshirt. Eko was killed because he somehow was against the rules. I think that when there is someone in the game that does not belong there Smokey takes this as being against the rules. Frank Lapidus was supposed to be the pilot and not whats-his-face, therefore whats-his-face was removed from the game. I also think that Yemi was supposed to be on flight 815 instead of Eko. Eko was meant to die at that airstrip in Nigeria but Yemi took his place. Because Yemi was supposed to be a game piece the beachcraft ended up on the island.
Smokey does not judge whether someone is good or bad but if someone is within the rules. Blackshirt needed smokey to scan Ben before he had Ben kill Jacob for this very reason. Blackshirt needed to prove to the games referee that Ben was eligible or else smokey would interfere before he could kill Jacob.
Blackshirt in the form of an apparition has tried and failed to kill people before. He took the form of Christian in season one and had Jack chase him off the side of a cliff. In season two he took the form of Dave and tried the same thing with Hugo. This is not the MO of the smoke monster. The smoke monster will kill you outright without any type of trickery. Faux Locke made himself scarce whenever the monster was around or summoned not because he was the smoke monster but because he did not want to be detected by the smoke monster.

If Blackshirt can take the form of anyone whose DEAD body is on the island then what exactly is the deal with Taller Ghost Walt? Just saying.
