Widmore did it. I'll be damned.
Remember when Ben shot Locke into the Dharma mass grave. Locke had insisted that Ben led the purge. And we agreed. But then Ben said he wasn't the one who gave the order and somebody else had been in charge once. And we assumed he meant Richard or Jacob perhaps.
Then we found out Widmore had gotten the boot, but,,, well he'd gotten the boot in the early 80's right? Way too early for the Purge. But then we found out that Widmore wasn't escorted away until after the purge! Hummmmmmmmmm.
So connecting the dots, Widmore was in charge at the time of the Purge, so he must have been the one to order it. That is of course if it wasn't still Richard or Jacob. Richard seems unlikely.
I just wonder if the Purge then was what led to Widmore's banishment and not so much the leaving and fornicating with outsiders. Or maybe all 3, but regardless, Widmore Ordered The Purge!!!! Theory by Locke4God
