In the bible it says that god sent the angle of death to egypt to kill the first born male child of every egyptian family who did not put goat blood on their door. In every movie i see about the passover they describe the angle of death the same way; a cloud of smoke. I think this is what smokie is.
After seeing what kind of power this creature had the pharroh (Richard) found a way to capture it and use it on his side. I think that the island was really close to egypt a long time ago and it wasnt invisible. Then Richard sent the monster to the island which i think was the egyptians holyland to judge people trying to enter the holy land and make sure that no bad people entered the holy land. He also found a way to make the island appear invisible. They built statues to reemble their gods i think they had more than one statue on the island as well. The island stayed hidden for thousands of years until Richard found a rope sticking out of the ground confused he orders his men to dig up the rope. Eventually they find the fdw and he commands someone to turn it. they do and a bright white flashes the island and all of a sudden there was a lage boat called the Black Rock in the middle of their camp. The Captain Jacob who Richard would see as a god because he just appeared out ! of nowhere, has his first mate magnus hanso write a journal and send it out to sea. Eventually the hansos find get the journal and discover this place which leads to the DI, which leads to the swan which leads to LOST. I think that Richard has a ancient magic on him that makes him live forever and Jacob learned of this knowing he wasnt a god and getting old he tries to use the magic on himself and something goes terribly wrong and he becomes the Jacob we know today.Theory by WNGYPSY
