There is something about fathers in the show
Recently I have just realized that none of the characters has a normal-happy relation with their fathers.
Sun and Mr Palik
Hurley – abandoned by his father when child
Kate – killed her stepfather who happened to be her real father
Sawyer – his father killed his mother and then shot himself
Sayid and his rough father (I think they introduced it recently through a flashback for something)
Jack and his love-hate relation with Christian
Locke and his tormented life because of his father Anthony Cooper
Ben suffered his father’s physical and verbal abuse. And he didn’t get along with his daughter Alex either
Charles Widmore is showed as an easy person either
Aron was abandoned before being born.
I suppose I’m leaving some out and then there are others (Miles, Juliet, Faraday, etc.) which I think will be introduced later
What seems pretty clear is that getting rid of one’s father is one of the requirements to become leader of the others. Ben did it and so did Locke (with Sawyer’s support)
I’m not sure how the storyline is going to present it but I think it is going to play a significant point to explain the relation of the character with the island Theory by Cristina
