Ok, I am new here and tend just to read the various theories as I find them so interesting but been thinking about a lot of stuff that has happened in season five.
Firstly, Ben killing Locke. Did anyone else get the feeling Abbadon was pushing Locke further and further down the path of despair during TLADOJB? His constant quips about John being unsuccessful at reuniting the Oceanic 6 seemed to have a specific purpose. Could it be that Charles Widmore wanted John to commit suicide for a specific reason? Maybe both sides know how instrumental John is to the Island, both sides realising he must die in order to fulfill what is needed of him on the Island.
But maybe his resurrection on the Island would have had bad effects if John had gone ahead and killed himself, maybe the Island sees suicide as a sin or as a flaw in character. Maybe John would have been judged for his actions by Smokie once back on the Island, or maybe suicide would have led John into the dark side of the coming war.
Knowing how important John was in the upcoming war and that it was his destiny to die in order to become the leader that is required of him by the Island, maybe Ben did the deed himself in order to ensure John remained "pure" and good at heart.. In essence, Ben is the good guy but has used extreme measures for the greater good. This could be a load of old hokum but, I do think Ben will emerge as some kind of misunderstood hero in the greater picture.
Ok, as for the upcoming incident. I definitely think the incident will create Smokey. I don't think Smokey exists up until the incident. I believe the matter from the Orchid will be released by Daniel, and will collide with the electromagnetic force under the Swan, which will lead to a number of time flashes, and possibly even the events that lead to the black rock ending up in the jungle. In the course of these flashes, our losties will get back to the present or maybe be transported to start of season one.
As for many fans commenting on the strangeness regarding the scenes with Kate & Aarron in the store last week. Is it possible that the past is being changed somehow and this is being reflected in Kate's scenes in a way similar to Sun and Frank's experience at the Docks. Maybe the possible time flashes in the final episode will take us back to the start of season one or maybe events are gonna play out differently by something changing in the timeline. This would explain why it looks like people cannot see Aarron. Aarron definitely does exist but as past events are changed, his life with Kate is becoming unstuck and unstable since it may have been changed or be changing.
Finally, I feel like the season is building up to a major precipice. I think its highly likely season five will end with the answers just that little bit out of reach. I just have this strong feeling Claire will make a surprise appearance in the finale. I think Daddy Shepard is gonna reveal himself to Jack in the final episode and the season will end with Christian and Claire about to divulge what they know about what Jack needs to do before we cut to the Lost credits!!
Like I said, this is my first post and is not that well thought out so don't be too harsh. And if theories like this have been posted before, which I am sure they have, then I apologise. Theory by LostwithSawyer
