...Just some theories as to who and what we're dealing with in the show..
Richard - [Egyptian] God Anubis-Patron of: mummification, and the dead on their path through the underworld. -
Description: Anubis is an incredibly ancient god, and was the original god of the dead before Osiris "took over" the position. After that point, Anubis was changed to be one of the many sons of Osiris and the psychopomp (conductor of souls) of the underworld. His totem of the jackal is probably due to the fact that jackals would hunt at the edges of the desert, near the necropolis and cemeteries throughout Egypt.
Prayers to Anubis are found carved on the most ancient tombs in Egypt, and his duties apparently are many. He watches over the mummification process to ensure that all is done properly. He conducts the souls through the underworld, testing their knowledge of the gods and their faith. He places their heart on the Scales of Justice during the Judging of the Heart, and he feeds the souls of wicked people to Ammit.
Four-Toed Statue - Tawaret - was the [Egyptian] goddess of protecting women during pregnancy and childbirth
smoke monster - Cerberus - was the son of Echidna, a hybrid half-woman, half-serpent and Typhon, a fire-breathing giant whom even the Olympian gods feared. His brother is Orthrus, always depicted as a two-headed hellhound.[6] The common depiction of Cerberus in Greek mythology and art is as having three heads, a mane of live serpents (similar to Medusa's hair) and a dragon's tail.
----- In most works the three-heads each respectively see and represent the past, the present and the future,----
while other sources suggest the heads represent birth, youth and old age.[7] Each of Cerberus' heads is said to have an appetite only for live meat and thus allow the spirits of the dead to freely enter the underworld, but allow none to leave.[8] Cerberus was always employed as Hades' loyal watchdog, and guarded the gates that granted access and exit to the underworld (also called Hades).[9]
JACOB - MOVES TO EGYPT
(GENESIS 45:17-50:26)
"Pharaoh said to Joseph, 'Say to your brothers, "Do this: Load your beasts and depart; go to the
land of Canaan. Bring your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the
(BEST, WORST) of the land of Egypt, and you will eat of the fat of the land." ' " GENESIS 45:17-18
2. Then Joseph's brothers "went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father.
And they told him, saying, 'Joseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.' And
Jacob's heart stood still, because he did not (LIKE, BELIEVE) them." GENESIS 45:25-26
3. "Then God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, 'Jacob, Jacob!' And he said, 'Here I am.' And He
said, 'I am God, the God of your father; do not fear to go down to Egypt, for I will make of you a great (NATION,
CHARIOT) there. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will surely bring you up again.' " GENESIS 46:2-4
4. "So they took their livestock and their goods, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and
went to (EGYPT, AMERICA), Jacob and all his descendants with him." GENESIS 46:6
Chemmis, Perdita, and Other Floating Islands
Chemmis was described by Pomponius Mela as a floating island in Egypt. This island had sacred groves and a temple of Apollo, and it floated wherever the wind blew it. No further information is given.
Plutarch, telling of the story of the Egyptian gods Isis and Osiris, tells that Isis loosened the island of Chemmis from its foundation and set it afloat to protect her son Horus from her enemy Seth. This island moved around, and was sometimes on the Nile and sometimes on the sea.
Both Seneca and Pliny tell of the floating islands in Lydia and other Greek stories tell of more islands, called Delos and Patmos.
Herodotus tells: "The next greatest marvel was the island called Chemmis. This island lies in the middle of a broad and deep lake close by the temple, and the natives declare that it floats. For my own part I did not see it float, or even move; and I wondered greatly, when they told me concerning it, whether there be really such a thing as a floating island. It has a grand temple of Apollo built upon it, in which are three distinct altars. Palm trees grow on it in great abundance, and many other trees, some of which bear fruit, while others are barren. The Egyptians tell the following story in connection with this island, to explain the way in which it first came to float:- "In former times, when the isle was still fixed and motionless, Latona, one of the eight gods of the first order, who dwelt in the city of Buto, where now she has her oracle, received Apollo as a sacred charge from Isis, and saved him by hiding him in what is now called the floating island. Typhon meanwhi! le was searching everywhere in hopes of finding the child of Osiris. The island, therefore, in consequence of this event, was first made to float. Such at least is the account which the Egyptians give."
Not sure where it's all going but I think these are some of our who's and wheres.. Theory by savagetat
