I know none will believe me. :)
Someone already said I have courage to speak my mind, to post theory for 'dogs' to tear it apart. I will do it again. Now. Jacob.
He doesn't exist yet. If we are talking about present time in 1977. There is no Jacob. I know everyone thinks he existed back in 1954. But he didn't. It is a trick.
"But Richard gave him the look."
Exactly! And that is all Richard did. Nothing else. He didn't say he knows Jacob. He didn't say Jacob is somewhere around. Nothing. He just said: Put the gun down, Widmore!
Why? Because Jacob sent Locke? Or because here is the man, standing in front of him, the man who had the courage to come into his camp, unarmed, shouting his name. Richard Alpert! Richard Alpert! The same 'old' man who captured Widmore. Who is this, crazy, brave man?
Wouldn't you be curious?
They are Others, Jacob is 'their leader'. They got to know at least he exists. But none reacted at all. Charles was angry..Richard couldn't trust this man. But why would Charles think like that, if this man is sent by Jacob. Doesn't he know who Jacob is? Jacob is their leader. The all mighty one. Who is he to doubt this John Locke who was sent by none other then Jacob himself? Who is this Charles Widmore? He is and Other who never heard of Jacob. Because Jacob doesn't exist. Not yet.
"But Richard gave him the look!"
Yes. And Richard gave Kate 'the look' in last episode, right after Sawyer said 'she is with me'. Look she couldn't stand, so she turned her head around. This scene was there for reason. He looked long enough for us to realize it is not just an ordinary look. He was digging inside of her skull, her brain.
He asked her: "Who might you be?"
Very similar scene, well I would dare to say the same like the one we saw in Jughead. And the one we saw in La Fleur. Richard meets survivors of 815 in past. :)
But did she say anything about Jacob? Does she even know who Jacob is? No. But still he looked her the same way he looked at John.
Next scene.
He took Ben from Kate but an Other warned him.
He shouldn't do this before he talks to Ellie, ask her permission. And if Charles finds out....!!! But Richard doesn't answer to them. He is on his own. He never answers to anyone. He doesn't talk to Jacob. He doesn't answer to the leaders of Others who ever they are. But wait, what happened to Jacob in 1977? Where is he? There is something of great importance that's about to happen within the Temple. A member of Dharma Initiative is about to become one of them, The Others. Ellie should know about this and Charles will be furious if he finds out. Jacob? None cares what Jacob thinks?? Well that is just weird! He is one of the most important people among the Others, he tells them what to do. But not regarding this matter. Weird. And even weirder is that NONE MENTIONED HIS NAME. Why? Because Jacob doesn't exist...yet. He simply doesn't exist. He is about to become. In few next months. By the end of season 5 probably. Finale of season 5, my guess. And 815ers will witness that. H! e (whoever that is) will become Jacob, Jacob we know in late 70s.
Just stop and think about it. It makes sense. 1984. Theory by Monika
