"Open The damn door! You open up! It is the Ghost of Christmas Future"
This show is all about books. Every book is leading us to something. For some time I was wondering why would Sawyer use this line? Because I never read this book. So now I have. And now I am gonna tell you what I think.
The Ghost of Christmas Future, is a character in English novelist Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
5 things strike me as odd.
1. Ghost
2. Charles Dickens
3. Desmond Hume
4. James Ford
5. The fact that they are in past. Yet that past is their future.
A minute of this episode, one minute and one line from a guy whose character is all about books and funny lines and shirtless top. If you look at it deep enough you might see a hint. But in the context of this episode it is quite irrelevant. I will try to simplify.
There is a reason why these people were "brought" to the island. They were not aware of it. They didn't even know it exists. Charlotte on the other hand spent her entire life in searching for this island. Daniel studied Dharma Initiative his whole adult life. But Sawyer couldn't care less. Jack too. Kate. Sayid. None of them wanted this. Yet it happened. And we are lead to believe that they are there for a reason. Why them? Because it is all about them. They are the piseces of this whole puzzle. They are the reason.
I already said it once. They are the parts of the equation. They are the equation. And every equation has its constant and variable.
Constant
Constant of this equation could be The Island, Richard Alpert (who I believe is the island's constant because he was always there according to Juliet) or the Smoke Monster (who was probably always there according to the drawings in the Temple). So all 3 things could be constant of this equation. 3 things in one. Or 3 things separate.
Variable
Variable is whole world of possibilities. Reality is nothing more than a possibility. And it depends on the observer. You chose what you believe or what you see. In the case of this show The island makes it happen. Kate saw her horse. Hurley got his numbers. Jack his father. Locke the ability to walk and be the hunter, leader. Sawyer Anthony Cooper. Sun & Jin a baby. It depends on how much you want something and how hard you believe.
If you look at something and then later on close your eyes and imagine the same thing the same part of your brain will "light" as if you are really looking at it instead of imagining things. So the real question is who sees. Eyes? Or the brain?
Island makes it possible. But you have to believe.
So variable of the equation are them. There are 6 numbers. So we need 6 people. And those people need to change. Because the equation itself needs to change in order to work. All these characters that are left are changed people now. They all reached their peak.
1. Jack
2. Locke
3. Kate
4. Hurley
5. Sun
6. Jin
7. Sawyer
8. Aaron
9. Walt
10. Sayid
These are the original group of people that survived since day one.
Rose&Bernard, well we have no idea were they are. Claire? Is she alive? Dead? So for these reasons these people are not on the list.
Walt
Locke said that this boy was through enough. Writers said Locke spoke in their behalf meaning he is out of the picture for now.
Sun&Jin
Sun&Jin are always as one. They are married meaning they joined in as one. The whole deal about them now is to find each other so from now on I will consider them as one "number" of this equation.
Locke
John Locke died. Now he is resurrected. He is no longer a part of this group. He is supreme being.
Aaron
The reason I got hooked on this show is the episode Raised by Another. There is this whole mystery surrounding this particular child. His mum needed to be on that plane. Meaning he needed to be on that plane too. He is for some reason important and thus he needs to be a part of this equation.
Sawyer
Well I still believe he will end up being Jacob or dead so I will rule him out too. (in my head this sounds right because every theory I write is a follow up of a previous so basically if you want to follow my thoughts you need to read the entire book :) and those who did know what I am talking about and what I wrote before. The others who have no idea read those theories first and then this one)
Jack
It always puzzled me this one line from Stranger in a Strange Land. I never liked this episode nor any of his centric episodes but this line got stuck in my mind.
He who walks among us is not one of us.
In the context of that episode it meant that he was a Stranger in a Strange land :) but really what does it mean? That he is not one of the Oceanic survivors? That there is a bigger mystery behind Jack we are yet to discover? Is he the ultimate variable? One that changes it all? Do we really know who Jack Shepard is? I mean what was the point of that episode? Nothing is what it seems. The reality depends on the observer.
I will go with these people:
1. Kate
2. Sun&Jin
3. Hurley
4. Aaron
5. Sayid
6. Jack
In my mind those who are suppose to change things are really these people:
1. Locke
2. Sawyer
3. Sun&Jin
4. Sayid
5. Jack
6. Kate
7. Hurley
Because those are the people who are on the island at the time. But then again Aaron is way important. So basically I don't know.
I am puzzled by Jack, John and James. Always 3 of them. One way or another. So I will deal with them.
John Locke died. Now he is resurrected. He seems to know everything. He is the leader of the Others. He finished his walkabout and now he is a changed man. Finally ready to take his place. Finally a hunter and not the farmer anymore.
Jack Shepard went to transition. From man of science became man of faith. He turned into John Locke. He knows that he has something to do but he doesnt know what it is yet. The island will tell him. He was a leader. And he probably should be again. But whose leader? Leader of survivors? Or the Others? He has a tattoo (and the whole episode was dedicated to the origin of that tattoo) that says He who walks among us is not one of us. What does it mean? I believe that he is the key of this puzzle. Well one of the keys at least.
James Ford. He went through transition too. Like the two above. He went from a small time conman to a leader and head of security. Define irony. From a man who was afraid of a commitment to a man who is playing house and is really good at it. He was one of the most intriguing characters for me since day one. And I always felt there is more to him then we see.
Every single on of them has their purpose. And 3 of them are the key players at least from this Oceanic group. Their relationship was always so hard and yet so deep. They were clashing heads all the time. Yet every single one of them is now fit to be a leader. When you analyze some scenes they had together it turns out those were the most powerful scenes in Lost.
Jack&Locke
"It never been easy!"
"What are we suppose to do, John!?"
And the scene from TLADOJB when Locke tells Jack about his father
Jack&Sawyer
The whole scene in Exodus about Christian
Sawyer&Locke
The whole scene in The Brig with Anthony Cooper.
And the scene after when he asks John was he in a wheelchair and John answers: "Not anymore"
And the scene before about Sawyers parents death.
I mean it all shows us that they are in one way or another really connected. And they need to find a way together. So one is dead and resurrected. The other two are still clashing heads and it really gets on my nerves. :)
The only possible way is the future. What lies in the future for both Jack and James? They will both get an equally important part in the ending. The whole shows is revolving mostly around 3 of them when we are talking about Oceanic survivors. Well that is my reality at least.
Open this damn door! Open it now! It is ghost of Christmas Future.
He was banging on Desmond's door. Somewhere in the past. That past was his future. He said he is Ghost of Christmas future a character from Charles Dickens's book. But remember that is Desmond's favorite author. He even has his last work "Our Mutual Friend" (the same name as the name of their boat, his and Penny's boat). It is the only book he hasn't read yet. He is saving it to be the last book he will ever read. It is pretty good if you know when you are gonna die. So what is the deal here? Desmond, man who sees future events is saving this book for the end. Meaning, now, he knows exactly when he will read it.
What a odd choice for Sawyer don't you think? Charles Dickens and two man. One inside and one outside of the door. Doors of perception.
This spirit is the last of the three (after the visitation by Jacob Marley) that haunt the miser Ebenezer Scrooge.
It strike me as odd. The name Jacob Marley. Charles Dickens as a connection between Desmond and Sawyer. Future Sawyer and Past Desmond. Then I remembered this one scene from Exodus. They were on the raft, Michael, Sawyer, Jin and Walt. And for the first time in this show the atmosphere was sort of relaxed and just normal. Sawyer was singing a song of Bob Marley (I cannot remember which one) and then Michael asked him what it is that he is singing. Is it Marley? The whole scene was sort of weird. I mean is there anyone in this world who doesn't like or know about Bob Marley??? Was there a point for this scene? Is it in some weird way connected to this Desmond/Sawyer scene? So this was sort of a flashback for me.
There is this whole religious theme that goes through this show. Literature theme. Long Con theme. Faith. Science. Fathers. Being a leader. It all points in one direction. Jack. John. James.
So my guess is that at one point of this show James will sacrifice himself and become Jacob (I know, I am not giving up on this idea because I made a pretty good case before pointing an evidence that this show provided me. And with each episode I am more and more convinced in that possibility). I also believe that Jacob is the one who is speaking through dead people off the island. Christian with Michael. That is the main reason why he was dismissive..because if I am right he knows what Michael did to them in order to save his son and that was the only reason why he was not able to kill himself. Because they needed to use him in order to save the island. He needed to redeem himself for what he did. The same things goes for Libby that sort of haunted him in the hospital. And the thing with Hurley and Ana Lucia and a twisted sense of humor with the line "Libby says hi". The whole deal with Claire "Don't you bring him back" if you remember it was Christian (who as far as we kno! w was speaking in Jacobs behalf) who said that baby is where it is suppose to be and it is not here, in the cabin or the island. Locke turned Jack in man of faith and now he is ready. He has no idea what it is he suppose to do. But once he is back with John he will know. He will find his purpose. I also believe that it was Jacob who influenced them all in coming to this island. The spirit of Jacob, energy, call it whatever you like. Island itself wanted them. Them. None else. And he is still waiting for John Locke to help him. He asked John Locke for help none else. Is he suppose to do that on his own? I don't think so. Theory by Monika
