In order to make things as the same as before, island takes the role. And it is doing this by flashbacks. Island guided Sayid to shot young Ben through flashbacks. Also it guided Kate to give him to the Others through flashbacks. I think whenever we saw flashbacks throughout the seasons, it means that island wanted from that character to behave like it guided. Flashbacks are the course-correcter. They direct losties to behave in a specific way.
Therefore, Ben had been shot in 1977 from left side of his chest-first we saw it- but in other 1977 where our losties exists, Sayid shot him from the other side-later we saw it-It cannot be a production error. It's done consciously by the producers to show us that whatever happened happened.
One more thing, if im not wrong, producers said that the communication through telephones or telegraphs aren't affected by the time which means that a man from the present time can talk with a man from the past. I have an idea that, communication through the conscious also is not affected by the time. the past and the present ones can communicate through conscious. When Faraday talked with Desmond he send the message to the present Desmond, likely when Faraday warned little Charlotte, only present Charlotte remembered it.
