I have heard people dabble on their Eloise theories but haven't delved. She is the one who told Jack and the other Losties how to get back to the island. She knew what it would take to get the plane back to the island so she made that happen she was very strict that they all needed to go. So it would make sense for her to hire Ilana and make sure Sayid got there.
