I'm just a little worried that everybody has taken some leaps of faith on things I'm not sure are as evident as many of us would.
First, the idea that smokey takes on human forms. Now I know that's a popular belief, and may very well turn out to be true, but I'd just like to point out that when we saw Alex this past episode, smokey had already left the room. So, what?, he came back out and took her shape? I guess, but I'm really really leaning towards it being something else. The same goes for Eko, Dave, the horse a number of other things. We've simply never seen any concrete evidense that smokey takes these shapes. Now, they do seem to come about when smokey is around, so related? Yes? One in the same? I've got to say no.
Next up is the idea that using the gas during the Purge would have killed Danielle. Really? Then why did Ben need his own personal can of gas to kill his dad in the van? The idea here is that the gas made it to every square inch of the island. Why would you draw that conclusion?
That being said, I think we should be careful now in assuming the purge happened in 92. I was completely on the 92 wagon based on Horace's, "I've been dead 12 years," line, but what in the hell were Ben, and esspecially Ethan doing in the woods in '88 stealing Alex if the Purge hadn't happened. I suppose they could have been sneaking out. And then of course Dharma didn't find her in the 4 year window. She reset the numbers station broadcast without Dharma's knowledge. I understand perhaps the Hostiles could have cut off their access to it, but it seems like I'm making exuses now for the purge being in '92. Maybe, but lets not jump to conclusions.
